Except, of course, when you are hiking the mountains in Maryland.

I didn't realize Maryland was big enough to have mountains.

As a Civil War buff, I can tell you that they do in fact have "mountains", though they are small compared to what we call mountains out west. The Shenandoahs screened some southern movements north, while there were holding actions in the gaps in South Mountain in Maryland to keep McClellan shooting over the mountain and then pushing Lee into the Potomac Rover at Antietam. The actions in the gaps gave Lee time to set up a bit of a defense and make a call to Jackson, who was down in Harper's Ferry at the time. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Yeah I was kidding.
My cousin did an RV tour of a bunch of battlefields out that way a few years ago. It's a trip I wouldn't mind taking one of these days. (Not in an RV, though)

I've been to some of the actual battle and raider sites in my area, and I'm not really a buff, but do enjoy the history.

Here's a different fun fact: Maryland has no natural lakes. All their lakes are man made. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

I go through all the strategy and tactics aspects, while my wife appreciates the history and likes hiking around. I've hit probably all the major sites for the Army of Northern Virginia and a few outside of their. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

Being a KS kid, We learned about the sacking of Lawrence in Grammar school and all of the bloody KS/ MO Raider/ Guerrilla warfare history is fascinating since it's so different from the way a lot of the war was fought. It was almost a separate war that started before the civil war and continued long after Appomattox. The crazies on both sides who probably would have been serial killers in any other era. (Brown, Quantrill, Anderson, Todd, etc...)

Quantrill is a fun one- half the "outlaws" in the West ran with Quantrill and then had to ditch West to avoid hanging. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

I watched one where a little baby elephant was trying to get out of a slippery ditch and then the big aunt elephant came and helped. It's so easy to get caught up in those never-ending animal videos.
