Oh man I'm all done. That seemed really short but MAN was that great. I have a feeling this ending is going to have some very mixed feelings but I'm very satisfied with how they did it.
|
- Told AJ he wasn't ready. I was... very iffy when I did this. NORMALLY I would have said he was and I didn't really disagree with any kill he had done by that point. But his Walter White "I like it!" speech was a bit of a red flag and I was worried he was going to do something very dumb if I let him keep it. I'm really curious if Louis lives if he's allowed to make his own decision.
- I added a statue of me to Louis' house. This is a bit of a silly decision (: I was just being ridiculous. I said to add 900 floors too.
- Told AJ to kill me. MAN was I glassy eyed during this and I was definitely dreading it. I knew the gun was gone so I was preparing for an absolutely brutal shot of Clem's head getting split open with an axe. But there's no way I was going to let Clem become a walker.
- I agreed to teach Tenn to be like me.
- Violet is SHAKEN. Apparently 100% players got this choice.... eh?
- James is INFURIATED
- Louis is DEAD
- Lily is DEAD
- Tenn is REPENTANT
- I found all 4 collectibles... waaaaah? That never happens.
What Clem taught me (This is a really cool screen!)
- The first thing you do when you enter a new place is find the easiest way out
- Always aim for the head
- When you have to apologize, be as honest as you can, even if it's really hard
- Eat real slow or you might accidentally burp or fart real bad or choke (Huh? I do not remember this conversation at all)
- It's not nice to take other people's stuff
- If people try to steal from you, it's okay to try and kill them
- Sleeping in a bed is way better than sleeping on the ground
- I was wrong to kill Marlon because he wasn't a threat when I shot him. But Lilly wasn't a threat when I shot her and that was okay. It gets confusing.
- If you have to atone something, it's hard, but people will forgive you
- Whenever you're scared, just remember to breathe
- The monsters won't be here forever
- Sometimes torturing people is okay, I guess
- Doctors can help with your trauma but I think they're all dead
- I thought there were people inside monsters, but that was dumb. There's nothing in them at all.
- Lying can help if you really need something
- You can be happy, or you can be rich. You can't have both.
- Even people who love you your whole life might not trust you with the big things.
- And that can make you freeze up.
THOUGHTS
Man what a rollercoaster. Telltale has been saying Clem's final chapter over and over and over so I went in 100% expecting Clem to die. But all that happening so fast was insane. I really liked the barn scene paralleling the final scene of Season 1 with Clem and Lee. Clem's "death" left me very numb and admittedly I was kind of pissed. I had to take a break and couldn't continue the flashback to McCaroll ranch until a bit later. (On a side note, anyone else notice the random EDDIE cameo of all fucking people? So strange. I wonder if any of those other guards were past characters, I didn't recognize anyone else but him.)
HOWEVER!!! The big reveal that Clem's leg got hacked off, all is well and everyone lived happily ever after... I really, really liked. I had a big goofy smile on my face for that entire ending segment. I thought it was great. And I'm sure people will be disappointed that the entire school didn't get massacred and that AJ didn't have to go through killing his guardian like Clem had to. But this was an unexpected but pleasant surprise. It definitely gives the series closure, which is what we needed. Not a teaser for a sequel that'll never happen with an AJ that's all alone.
VERY curious how our very different games all tied together? James was absolutely furious that we killed Lily and tried to take AJ away from us. AJ went on a Walter White speech about how he killed Lilly because he "likes it", not necessarily to save the group. Which freaked everyone out. James kind of just huffed away never to be seen again. Then we got the choice about AJ's responsibility and I said lolno because I was really concerned about him taking pleasure in shooting people, which lead to him not saving Louis (who still had his tongue) and Louis getting devoured by walkers. |
|
|
Makes me glad that I told AJ to do what he thought. I did like Tenn but he got Mitch killed and Louis/Violet killed. AJ felt confident he made the right decision on that.
I didn't notice the cameo but that is freaking awesome. What a little tidbit they didn't have to do that made it that much better.
Boc, did you have the cave scenes as well? Or was your escape different and tied to Lilly's. Glad I freaking killed her, I feel better having James as an enemy somewhere in the universe than Lilly. |
|
Also about the cameo
|
Eddie was the guy in the flashback who tells Clem where AJ is after shooting at her. Seems he was the only one, random. I'm still bitter about all those 400 Days characters wasted |

Holy shit, I didn't realize Tenn dies if you trust AJ. That's fucking nuts. I don't know if I regret my decision there anymore. A Tenn death would have been very ROUGH to watch for me. I liked Tenn a lot. |
|
|
idk, it sounds WAYYY preferable to losing Violet for me. Even though I did kinda like Tenn until the bridge bullshit
The only thing that makes me not regret distrusting AJ (from a meta perspective, in-character I STAND BY IT) is him killing Tenn just because he's being weak or whatever is kinda fucked up. It's not a far cry from Carver's philosophy |

I agree about Violet but out of three, I think I'm okay with losing Louis the most. |

And yeah, I agree that AJ just killing Tenn is fucked up. Man I had no idea that's what AJ was thinking about before he decided to do nothing. I understand to a point WHY he would shoot Tenn, but Louis dying a hero vs. Tenn getting slaughtered for being a distraction... I so much prefer the former. I'm so glad that didn't happen to me, especially with Clem being bitten and "killed" right after, what a fucking downer that would have been to an already distressing scene. |

Gooood episode. I was fearing the worst as we got on the boat but it...actually wasn't TOOO bad! SHOCKED that none of the kids died
From memory:
- Mercy killed Able. Like Dyl that scene actually did make things way less black and white for a bit. I had a feeling my big choice in the ep would come down to getting the kids to all surrender to their wishes or decide to attack (with casualties on our side) so that was a stressful thought. I only lightly tortured Able. Refused to give him water and slammed his head on the desk, no Rosie and no cigs
- Respected James' wishes. Whatev. Only did it for his help. Told him that zombies were ppl too and then told AJ it was a bunch of horseshit. I really liked the music during the wind chime scene tho. And the way it was directed. The whole episode was actually very artfully directed I thought, there were some standout moments and 'shots'
- Named it Mitch's Masterpiece. Okay. Worst major choice in series history???
- Let AJ attack the guard. This part was super stressful. I thought for SURE we were gonna have to choose between killing Lewis or Violet or something. Or that she'd make AJ choose. That would've been brutal. I was p confident nothing major would happen to AJ if I let him do this but I was still second guessing my choice a lot as the scene played out
In the previous ep I had them take Lewis. The tongue scene was pretty brutal. But Violet being pissed at me in the alt-choice sounds kinda rough too. SORRY LEWIS! Playing this ep with their roles reversed would've been weird, there was a good amount of Violet here
- Told AJ to shoot Lilly. This one was a lil hard. This whole season is all about AJ's growth and this second killing felt like a milestone. He might be going down a terrible path now, I dunno. But I thought letting her live might've been worse, I thought she'd kill Tenn or something. It was a little silly that Clem didn't just grab the gun out of AJ's hand and do it herself, she was like right next to him. Fuck Lilly tho. Also fuck James tbh, I didn't care how he felt about it at all. If it was him AND Tenn both begging me to not let AJ do it then that would've been harder. Everyone on the deck telling me to coach him one way and me picking the opposite, that'd be a lot of pressure
Kicking the knife in Lilly's leg was brutal
I echo the thoughts about the zombie gameplay moments. BRUTAL. When I was trying to get James' mask back I kept hitting walls and died at least 6 times. But walking in the pack of zombies towards the boat later. MAN. At least 10 times. And worse than BOTH of those was anytime when I had to walk around. My god. Why is this game so bad at that. I try to turn the camera just a little bit with my mouse and it whips me seven hundred and twenty degrees around. It's so unbelievably frustrating, it makes the fun scenes of walking and exploring such a chore |

Man oh man
|
- I told AJ he was ready. That was a tough one. I figured either way something horrible was gonna happen, but James was being such a dunce and I didn't wanna agree with him at all. I'm jealous that he died for you Boc, he just disappeared for me. I kinda wanted to see him as a walker with his walker mask on
- Let Violet rename the school. She picked Texas2 (Scrub2!). What a weak major decision for a finale. And there were only four!
Since I told AJ he was ready...you know what that means! RIP Tenn. Basically what happened was Tenn was reaching out to be with Minnie who was VERY MUCH a lost cause. It looked like he was gonna get Violet killed so AJ shot him through the neck. BRUTAL. My jaw dropped. I was like come ONNNNNNNNNN kid cut this shit out, quit getting your grubby little hands on a gun! I was upset about it in the moment and felt like I made a terrible choice but honestly...not sure I regret it. Violet>Louis>Tenn for me. I would've really hated seeing Violet or Louis die I think. No great choice there really but I'm content with mine for sure. Also you see walker Tenn later by the river and you shoot him to put him down as AJ. Violet was PISSED at AJ on the bridge immediately after he shot him
also that entire Minnie scene was cool, even if it was a little cartoonish. She looked brutal. She was a fun last minute villain. The song was eerie. Definitely a much better finale villain than James, I was worried it'd just be him
This is where the ep began to lose me, Clem getting bit. It was just as anticlimactic as Lee being bit. What bugged me the most is that everyone KNEW this was gonna happen. With how much this season mirrored the first it was such an inevitable ending - AJ having to put down Clem in the same way she put down Lee. The predictability really kinda...numbed the impact tbh, I was not nearly as emotional as I should've been. I was kinda just like welp, here it is, exactly what I've been imagining for many many months. I told AJ to put me down to mirror me putting Lee down. If the series ended with AJ walking through the gate (they brought back Take Us Back!) then I would've been pisssssed and would not have liked it
But as soon as he swung the axe I said to myself PLEASE let him have cut off her leg. I was holding out hope the entire time and nearly lost it when he closed the gate. While he was walking up to the gate and each character joined him, I had this visual in my head of one-legged Clem waiting for him there. SURE ENOUGH! Man was I excited. I was so so glad they made that choice. I agree with Boc, the idea of Clem dying just kinda weakens the series impact for me. Lee, Kenny's great sacrifice that I got in s2. It would've felt like it was for nothing. So this was great, it saved the ep and season for me
Also the Blade Runner monologue to Disco Broc was the strangest thing this game has done
What a game. I'll miss it dearly. I started s1 SEVEN YEARS AGO all on my lonesome. It was like Rectify in video game form for me, hard to explain. Also maybe the longest narrative game I've ever played? Probably
I'm so glad they managed to finish it |

You didn't like the way they did the Lee bite? I actually loved how they went about that, BECAUSE it was so unexceptional and unexpected to see Lee's downfall being something so ordinary like that instead of something more GRANDIOSE. Just showed how dangerous the world is if you let your guard down for even a second, and how impartial it can be. Kinda like Drogo's death to use a GOT metaphor (:
That said I kindaaa agree they could've did something more original for Clem's bite (besides her surviving), like they could've went with the hero's "death" to differentiate it a bit more. Definitely was an opportunity for it on the bridge |

No I did, I just didn't like that this was nearly AS anticlimactic as his was. It mirrored it maybe a little too much. There was more action here than Lee's but it still felt so sudden. It's a spot where I wouldn't mind some cliche heroism leading to the bite tbh |

Episode 1 Decisions and thoughts
|
- I let AJ go through the window instead of killing the Walkers. I felt like I was supposed to be a parental figure by trying to make him grow up with *some* morals. Like it was their dying wish to be left together there. IDK, Also I knew nothing would happen to AJ that early. So it was worth the risk and it was a nice decision overall. A good throwback to Clem's childhood.
-I chose to go with Louis and Aasim because I felt like the game WANTED me to go wherever Violet was. So I wanted to see what I thought would be the less picked option. I was expecting to have to choose between the two and figured one would be in danger. I was ready to abandon reckless Louis,
-I convinced AJ to sleep on the bed because I'm a good mommy
-I attacked Abel, FUCK that guy. He better not survive that but I'm sure he will. I also knew something bad was going to happen so I saw him entering the room because I kept looking around rather than at AJ and the food.
-I turned to Violet instead of Louis because I felt there was a connection between her and Clementine. Although I accidentally left her hanging when she was talking to me in the bedroom because I was reading my phone. oops. She loves me though because I complimented her and she stood up for me.
The ending made my mouth drop - which is silly because I was waiting for some kind of shocking finish so I should have known. But what a little MONSTER AJ is growing up to be!! Maybe I'm not the mommy I thought he was. I just hope he doesn't become insufferable like Daniel in Life is Strange 2. I hate children!!

S4 Episode 2
|
-Told AJ to keep the gun obviously. Exile us and take away his weapon? Naw
-I told Louis and Violet to run because as much as I wanted Violet to kill Lily right then and there - (HATED her in season 1) it was quite obvious it would not work and she was going to be in this longer.
-Spared the walker. Didn't really care about this choice but it seems stupid to go kill it. Why not try and do what James suggested and see how that worked? It's not like it was coming to us.
-Chose Violet and stargazed. I didn't anticipate a Lesbian option for ol' Clem. But BY SURE GOLLY DID I TAKE THAT! And made them kiss and hold hands too. Aw I'm invested.
-Saved Violet over Louis. I mean they showed Louis being dragged to a cage vs Violet fighting someone..even if I didn't have preference between the two it made more sense that she was in greater danger.
