Tigers got raped trading the best bat on the market
#FireAvila |
They got 1 quality infield prospect for Martinez, noone is going to overpay for a 2 1/2 month rental. The Tigers have fucked up by holding on to their assets for WAYYYYY too long.
The only player on Detroit with any kind of decent trade value right now is Fulmer and he's 24 and it wouldnt make sense to trade him unless they could get a fucking haul.
There are rumors about Verlander getting traded too but from everything I've read it would have to be a straight salary dump because noone is going to take on that salary and give up anything more than a dozen bats and a bucket of baseballs.
It's looking pretty bleak in Detroit for the next few years tbh.

You are wrong about JD not having any trade value. And they also didn't get 1 quality prospect back. They got 3 possible utility players back. JD was the best bat on the market and if Avila knew what he was doing he would have gotten at least 1 top 100 prospect for him. |

Completely disagree, no way anyone gets a top 100 prospect for Martinez.
20 years ago teams wuld trade half their minor league system for a rental, that shit doesn't happen any more with the way the financial structure is set up, prospects are extremely over valued at the moment.
Honestly that's what has made what the White Sox have done over the past year so impressive but to expect the Tigers to get a top 100 prospect for Martinez is very unrealistic.

I'm honestly so nervous for this trade deadline. Giants are going to have to let go of a lot of beloved players from the franchise who helped us win multiple world series. Only Bumgarner, Posey, and Crawford are safe (thank god) but I'm expecting a lot of my faves (who have been shit this season) to go. Talk of Brandon Belt going to the Yankees--he and Pence are basically the only two I'd be upset about leaving. Maybe Denard Span also.
But honestly no one wants half our team so idk wtf Sabean is going to do. We need to lock down a solid left fielder and third baseman, which has been the case for the past couple years anyway. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

Belt won't be going to NY since they traded for Frasier last night. |

Oh must have happened while I was at the Giants game last night talking to my friend about Belt going to the Yankees. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

We just signed Pablo Sandoval.
I have never been so unwhelmed in my life. I do not at all see the benefit of this decision. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

You're getting a 30 year old two time former all-star for the league minimum who played his best baseball for San Francisco.
This is essentially a no risk high reward situation. If he shits the bed, you release him for nothing. If he stays healthy and remembers how to hit, you get all the benefits.
I dont really see what the downside is here.

He was terrible when he left. I was not sad to see him go and a lot other Giants fans I know weren't either. He also bitched out the club when he left and it was not classy at all. But this is a minor league deal so it's whatever I guess--I don't expect him to improve.
He has to pass a fitness test so lol...we'll see how that goes first. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

I don't care how bad you guys think your teams are, mine wins.
The Twins just started Bartolo "Big Sexy" Colon...in a real game...against the Yankees...in a nationally televised game...that counts. |
Did you see the other day he had a complete game win? Hahahaha

My roadtrip to Detroit and Toronto is this upcoming weekend! I am really excited to see two ballparks which I have never been to.
I'll give an update and short review once I return next week.

He still gave up 4 ER, but was bailed out by his offense. It's sad when the manager decides to give the ball to Colon in the 8th and 9th innings instead of guys in the bullpen.
