How do you get called for Jury Duty? Do you have to sign up or how does it work?

The selection process is completely random apparently.

I say apparently because my mum and sister were also called up this year!

I don't think we have that thing here. Sounds interesting tho, it feels weird somehow that they can just pick people randomly.

You get enrolled when you turn 18? I think in the US. Then they select a bunch of people, and filter through the crazies/nonqualified people until they get enough for a jury.

So you are judged by a "jury of your peers"

I'd assume they gotta make it random to some degree in any country where they care about having a fair trial.

I reckon it would be too easy to manipulate the jury otherwise.

Oh, and I just realized I didn't make it clear why this guy today was sentenced despite us finding him 'Not Guilty'

He had several other charges, and we were simply judging one of them. He was guilty of the others.
