Day 5 of jury service today. We had to deliberate on whether the suspect was guilty or not.

All of us bar one thought he was. I privately nicknamed this lone dissenter Vernon.

I dropped some zingers, including:

"Rapists tend not to ask for permission, that's kind of the point" - In response to Vernon (Without context, it might sound like this was a rape case, but it wasn't.)

"Would it be unethical to take bets on how many previous charges the defendant has?"

This guy was basically trying to game the system to get a much lighter sentence. But we weren't having any of his shit. When we gave the verdict he was pissed, and he flipped us off. So the judge had him thrown out. Turns out this guy had 21 previous convictions! Fucking hell. He got 10 years, and I do feel kind of bad because he has two daughters but...tbh I think they will be better off without him around as an influence. After the outburst and the judge's verdict, even Vernon conceded that he was wrong about the guy.

Oh, and one of the jurors told me a ridiculous story about how she had once witnessed a robbery. She claimed that she saw some guy in a full suit stealing a bicycle whilst brandishing a chainsaw. It was hard not to laugh at the absurdity of this image.

Anyway, I'm enjoying this now, even if the wait time between hearings is dull. I'm thinking of ditching music and becoming a sleazy inner city lawyer.

Received a subpoena today to be a witness at Omar's trial for embezzlement in January

Boring update: this morning I got in contact with the detective who issued my subpoena and he explained that the January trial is just a preliminary where they only need to prove probable cause. They likely won't need me to testify for that, but an attorney is still gonna question me and shit.

The entire left side of my face is swollen and pretty much frozen in place. Even my eye is puffy. My mom saw my condition and laughed at me
