The Wind Rises
The latest movie directed by Miyazaki is one of his best.
I went to see it because it's in theatres and i love Ghibli films in general. Plus this film is acadamy award nominated.
Even though this film is rated PG13 there isn't much or any swearing in it if I recall. Violence is also minimal though sometimes it's dramatically heavy at times. The only reason i can see why this is PG13 and not released under the Disney label is because the main character smokes. Like in several scenes.
Ok for the plot if you're still reading.
The story chronicles the life of a boy wanting to become airplane engineer. He wants to design the greatest planes ever.
I don't want to spoil more than that but you essentially see the boy dealing with real events in early 30s japan as he tries to reach his goal.
Even though my ticket said sub-titled and the first 4 minutes or so with no dialogue had me worried. I will tell you now it is a fully dubbed film with a great cast including: Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emily Blunt, John Krasinski, Martin Short, and Stanley Tucci
Mal highly reccomends. Don't let this be ignored like every other time I've reviewed an anime movie, lol.
And it's got an 88% on rotten tomatoes if you care about that.

There are so many things I should be doing and instead I'm sitting here watching Baby Mama. I love Amy Poehler and Tina Fey. | A lesson without pain is meaningless. DAMN! WHAT A PLEASANT FILM!!
So many brutal scenes. Those long takes showing some of the more brutal ones were really impressive. I finished it a few hours ago so I'm trying to recall. The one where Solomon gets PADDLED was rough. The Patsey whip scene. And oh man the scene where he's hanging by the noose. Those parts were hard to watch but so impressively shot and pulled off
Chiwetel Ejiofor was so good. I wish he won the Oscar now. Haven't seen Dallas yet but man was he great. So was Fassbender
My two favorite parts were when I CHEERED for Solomon. The first was when he struck back against Paul Dano. That little shit. The second was when he was rescued. I was so very happy |

I'm curious about it may watch it, also need to watch 12 Years a Slave.
Saw Catching Fire. Pretty good, but I predicted a lot of it. Next movie is likely American Hustle.

i couldn't CHEER when he was rescued because, for as happy as i was, Patsey was kind of left there. Their little glances to each other made it heartbreaking. and then the end was absolutely crushing too |
last thing i watched was Pierre Etaix's The Suitor, which proves to me how crucial sound effects are in making slapstick comedy not obnoxious

Very good, can't believe I never saw it before cause it's exactly my kind of movie.
Might give it a second re-watch, might be fun knowing what the twist is this time around. |

It's the perfect movie to watch a couple of times tbh. Knowing the ending during a rewatch allows you to pick up on tons of stuff. There's a lot of little details hidden throughout
