"I guess we know why they call it King's Landing! NYUK NYUK NYUK NYUK NYUK" - My friend
It's technically called King's Landing for another literal reason Aegon's landing on the Blackwater Bay for the first time before conquering the sevon kingdoms and instead of making Oldtown the capital he builds a new city where he landed, but yes this is quite symbolic as well!
Are any other book readers worried that they are going to go into Winds Of Winter wondering what the hell is going on due to the TV show diverging so much?
I know I am! I may have to re-read Feast and Dance beforehand.

Oh god I can't possibly re-read both those books again

I'm just hoping it will all come back to me when I start reading.
On my break now, and remembered that Sam, Sansa and Tyrion's story are VERY, VERY different.
Tyrion is playing Barristan's role from the books in the show, as Tyrion is a slave rn together with his adorable lover; Penny.
Sansa is still in the Vale, about to marry Harry the Heir. Littlefinger is planning on using them to get tp the Throne, but Sansa is slowly becoming a player herself. (All the WF shenanigans already passed hy that point with Jeyne. So odds are Sansa will never even meet Ramsay in the books)
And Sam's storyline is WAY to difficult to explain in the short time of my break; but it's nothing like the show. He is in Oldtown though -which is the only similairty.
Yeah none of that made much sense to me. That sounds like a completely different entity. I didn't know the show derailed that much from the books.
Yeah, that's why S5 had such a big backlash (I mean, the writing and storytelling in S5 was bad within itself, but an even 'bigger' backlash was the deviation). It mainly had to do with how sudden it was. Seasons 1-4 stayed pretty faithful to the books, with some HP type changes -nothing all too major (besides Qarth, fuck showQarth). So when the show just randomly decides to stop following the books; it came too sudden. As info started streaming in, we were able to piece together that Arianne, Victarion, Quentyn, Young Griff, LSH all wouldn't be featured, it rightfully made us worry as they take up big portions of the 4th and 5th book. And as thw seasons unfolded and we saw ridiculous things like Sansa marrying Ramsay (and her escaping by PICKING a fucking lock, instead of the amazing way Jeyne was forced to escape in the books). Too many sudden character-changes. And DnD wanted to create theit own entity, and failed big time. They are great cinematographers, but suck at making up stories and keeping stuff consistent.
That, and the super sudden plan to cut everything from the books and make up their own shit, is a huge part of why the internet shits on present day GOT.
Oh, and my memory constantly refreshes itself with book stuff due to that I am quite active in book discussions, but when the release date for The Winds of Winter comes out, I'm going to re-read all the books; and try the boiled leather reading order which shouls be quite a different expierence.
I'm excited for that. Will make a bunch of notes, especially with the minor characters who'll have a role im twow. Can't wait to reach Marwyn the Mage part again - the showrumners are fucking idiots for leaving him out-.
