OWB first impressions...what a CHORE! I played last night and I feel like I spent an hour on that intro talking to that monitor. And then another 40 going around the room and talking to all 5 or 6 again. I was getting so bored. I also thought the dialogue/humor was kinda lame, I'm unfortunately not really all that interested in my quests or what it seems to have to offer
Willing to be surprised though! I started exploring outside a bit before calling it quits
Also...I am so rusty. I can't figure out what button does that slow-mo aim mode, so I just had to shoot down my sights at those lobotomites and I was having a rough time

I... had the same experience! I walked to the Drive-In from New Vegas because I didn't want to fast travel, which was pretty uneventful unfortunately. So when I did get to the DLC stage, I was antsy to start doing stuff but that opening dialogue went so fucking long. I didn't even finish talking to all the robots before I stopped for the night. |

Also if you struggle with shooting, go to third person. I find iron sights to be really clunky in fallout, the weapons take up like the whole screen and you can't even see what you're aiming at half the time. But I am bad at video games. |

VATS is like the only non-painful way to play New Vegas combat, regular shooting only became decent in 4
and it's been probably over a decade since I played OWB so I've forgotten a lot, but I THINK I remember finding the start p slow too and started liking it more once the exploration starts. It's def the campiest out of all the DLCs so I can see it not being to everyone's TASTES

Certainly more fun now that I'm through the intro + using VATS. Still CONSTANTLY encumbered and totally forget what's valuable and what's droppable. I'm constantly at like 320/320 (or whatever the number is) and can barely pick anything up. But I dunno what to get rid of!! I also totally forget what people in the main game were buying, like I seem to recall that underground fighting pit place offering me money for weird eggs and such, but I think there were more that I can't remember. Wasn't there something with empty sarsaparilla bottles?? I forget! I wish I didn't take this long break :(

You can sell anything really. And I tend to hoard a lot because I end up selling everything. In F04 it's essential to hoard because you can recycle your junk for gun parts and resources to build. New Vegas it's really only for caps. Dunno if there is a shop or vendor in OWB, I kinda remember DLC skimping on that aspect. I would find that ASAP otherwise just dump out your junk and just keep two to three guns with different ammo types.
I think you're thinking of the blue sarsaparilla caps, which will you can collect 50 to get a prize. But the empty ones are just junk.
I can't remember how in depth crafting is in New Vegas but try out the crafting tables as they'll use items in your inventory to make something else and most of the time it's something lighter and more useful. |

OWB finished:

Honestly...huge meh? I thought it was a slog. So much back and forth, especially those tests that you had to keep redoing different versions of. And those research bunker locations were all so similar, no location really stood out from the next. The large scorpion fight was easy and boring, the scorpions around the map in general were annoying. I don't really like robot enemies too much in this game anyway, so this wasn't really the DLC for me I guess. Some of the talking appliances were kinda amusing I guess, but the robot monitor characters were very annoying. Whole thing took me way too long, but that was partly due to getting back in the swing of things/constantly being encumbered/the game crashing a ton. That was like Bioshock 2 levels of crashing, I had to save constantly. The main game was never like that for me
I got a phone call halfway through my end credits that says how I did etc and for some reason pausing the game...doesn't pause the voiceovers? They just keep talking? Very annoying. I missed the second half of it but whatev
It was so refreshing being back in the main game, though overwhelming because I have like 10 different quests that seem like end game quests for any of the factions and I can't decide what will end the game and push me past the point of no return or not..which I kinda hate. I'm gonna play Lonesome Road first

as for the crashing, if you wanted to dabble with modding I'd recommend: https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/61592
I haven't gotten very far in my modded playthrough but I've HEARD it fixes a lot of the crashing/stability issues for the game. One of the original devs created it in fact, so it's basically an official patch (before live patching was a common thing)

o, you had to tune into the Mysterious Broadcast to hear it. For some reason I thought it just started playing when you entered one of the domes
