Red Dawn (Remake)
Meh! It takes a lot for me to like war movies in general, but this was just silly. First of all, the original was fine. This movie totally lacks the cultural context that made the original work, though. I dont see North Korean and (SPOILER) Russia deciding to lolletsinvadeamericatogether!! There was some kind of handwave on why the US hadnt pulled out the nukes yet, but it still seems like trying to surprise invade and occupy half of the united states is dumb.
The way the people who surrendered were treated by the film as COWARDS and TRAITORS was pretty :/ to me, and the Daryl storyline was the only interesting one to me. I didnt care about the brothers, all the females did was cry or scream or threaten to shoot Daryl because of overwhelming irrational emotions.
I was rooting for the Korean general and the marines.
Also did they seriously make the one asshole rival football player defect and become a low ranking member of the occupying forces? Did I see that right?

I think the movie was originally filmed as Russia and China, but then post production they edited everything to be North Korea. They were afraid to lose the Chinese movie market.

Yeah, my dad said that when I was pointing that out at the start (I'm that person) though he thought it was just some overly-PC thing. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

That's what I thought too. I ended up seeing it in theaters -____- and then researched it afterwards. It was all about the $$$ they could get from the Chinese box office. Apparently its a big market now to consider.

i heard the walls kept tumbling down in the city that they loved, and great clouds rolled over the hills bringing darkness from above.

Yeah, it's worth seeing for the visuals and the cast but don't expect much. They are incredibly limited by the shitty script they had to work with. It's fun and grand but it's lacking. | nav is ugly and i am pretty |
