The problem is you can't take his one quote out of context. Part of his discussion is forcing people to be quiet, which is what right wingers typically say liberals are doing through "political correctness". The problem with this, again, is that it assumes that freedom of speech = freedom from consequences. Freedom of speech as a 1A concept in the States only applies to government regulations on speech. It does nothing for private effects. So if someone says something that is douchy, I also have the right to say "What you said is douchy." More so, I can share that person's douchy comment and say "This guy is a douchbag." If someone decides *not* to say something douchy because everyone will call him a douchebag, then that is not "PC police keeping them from saying something". Again, said freedom is a two-way street. If you say something racist, I have just as much right to say "That's fucking racist, you prick!" To deny me that right means only *you* get freedom of speech and the rest of us just have to shut up about it. | | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |
