FU DADD

my job is so fucked right now. i still have it though, just looking to get out.

Background: I've worked for a limo company for the past year and a half. The owners are a married couple (him originally from Pakistan, her from Colorado). The employees in my office are Jade the office manager, Iqbal the fleet manager, Niaya the reservasionist, and myself, reservationist/admin assistant/whatever needs to be done. Then we have 7 reservationists/dispatchers in a call center in Pakistan, and at least two of them are there 24/7.

The story: On Friday afternoon July 1st, the female owner (hereby known as Rebecca) called Jade, Iqbal, and myself into a meeting. She handed us this sheet of paper from her lawyer:

The paragraph about the person not allowed on the premises is Rebecca's husband, Omar.

So she tells us they're (obviously, at this point) getting divorced and she's going to be serving him papers on the next day. She gets the locks changed to the office, changes her phone number, and hires a security guard to be here in case he tries to come in. She says she's going to be working remotely for the time being but that we'll have weekly Skype meetings and that we can call her if we need anything. And oh, she's also firing Niaya (work performance related) and 3 of the guys in the Pakistan office (because they're relatives of Omar), and that today is their last day.

We're like "oh."

She's leaving and won't tell us where because she's afraid of his reaction. I ask when she's going to let Niaya know (since she's my office bestie and will definitely ask me why there was a meeting and she was the only one not included) and Rebecca says "Tuesday."

WHAT

She's being fired on Friday and not even being told until she comes into work again on Tuesday (since Monday was July 4th). Oh, but that's not all. Since Rebecca was fleeing the state, she made Jade fire Niaya instead. (In Rebecca's defense, Niaya did end up receiving two weeks severance pay, but I'm still pretty pissed about the situation).

Okay so that weekend goes by relatively uneventfully and so she gets rid of the security guard.

Omar starts blowing up Jade's phone though, calling her nonstop. The company was his for like 7 years, and only recently became Rebecca's (and I'm not sure the circumstances of that happening), and Jade has been an employee the entire time. He calls her and the head of the Pakistan office and continuously tries to get them to quit and demand he be able to return. I'm talking like 20+ times a day. The head of the Pakistan office (who's like a 50 year old man) ended up crying because of the pressure he was being put under.

Jade wasn't answering his calls enough apparently so he tells he he's coming to the office. He does, and she meets with him for about an hour and a half. Shit like this happens for a few weeks. Her telling him she doesn't want to be dragged in the middle of this bullshit and just wants to work and go home, and him continuously trying to drag her into it.

At one point she meets with the lawyer because the lawyer is the only person who can sign checks for payroll (since Rebecca is AWOL) and Omar calls her several times in a row during the meeting. The lawyer noticed and told Rebecca, who got mad at Jade and called her, asking what was up. Jade explained, and later Rebecca sent an email saying shit like "Jade, your job at [company] is to _________, ________, and ________. You seem to have a good idea of what your job is, but apparently you need to be reminded what your job is not." She went on to threaten that she would sell the company and liquidate the assets if Jade kept in contact with Omar.

A week or so later Jade pulls Iqbal outside (since they're both smokers) and let us know that she would be turning in her letter of resignation the next day since she was tired of being put in the middle of something that isn't her business. While she's telling us this, Omar pulls up and tells Jade to get something from inside, then starts yelling at me since there's no one inside the office answering phones. I kinda just stared at him and went back inside.

About 10 minutes after he leaves, all three of us get the same text: "Hang in there it gonna be back to normal by next week."

Spoiler alert: It wasn't.

The next day (last Wednesday), Jade emails her letter of resignation to Rebecca. A few minutes later (coincidentally, he wasn't aware of her resignation yet) Omar shows up at the office again and calls Jade into a meeting. Thirty minutes later, she storms out and packs up some of her shit and is like "I can't work for him after what he just accused me of" and leaves. Omar leaves a few minutes later, and she texts me to confirm that he's gone. She comes back and starts packing up her entire desk, computer and all. I help her load it to her car, and she leaves. Later in the day I deliver some paperwork to her at a gas station by her house and she tells me that he's called her 68 times. She also tells me that she shared with Rebecca that I'm going to be looking for a new job because I don't want to work under him.

At the end of the day she texts me and tells me not to go home yet. She comes back to the office and lets us know that Omar had come to her apartment and started banging on the door, yelling at her that he knew she was in there, etc. This is exceptionally scary because he previously didn't have her address. So she wanted to have him come to the office in front of witnesses so that she could tell him to leave her alone. So they (including Iqbal) go have their meeting and it seems like he gets the message.

I have Thursdays off because I take care of an elderly cousin of mine in DC, so I got a call from Omar at like 5:30pm on Thursday and I ignored it since I was still with my cousin. When I called him back later, he talked about how all of his marriage problems were his fault and that he was sorry for dragging us into this stuff, and that he had been hoping to give us extra time off in the upcoming slow season.

When he got in on Friday, he called me into his office. He started off by saying I need to dress more professionally. Then he went into his explanation of his interaction with Jade. According to him, in his culture if you show up to someone's house you are showing them respect because that's how badly you want to talk to them. He says he was going there to apologize, etc., and that he only had the best intentions so he was surprised to hear that she was scared by that. BTW, he found out her apartment because he tricked neighbors into telling him which one was hers, and one of them let him into the building. I told him I was shocked to hear he was surprised, because it's common knowledge that if you call someone a bunch of times in a row and they ignore those calls, that they don't want to speak to you. And that if you then find out where they live, show up to their house uninvited, and start banging on the door, that's harassment.

He didn't really see it that way, and I went back to work. He left a little while later and then he called my cell phone a little while later. I picked up, and he asked what my plans were with the company. Apparently someone had told him that I wanted to leave. Ughhhhhhhhh. He reminded me that he was the one who hired me and not that that means I should show him loyalty, but that I should keep that in mind. And also that I wasn't what he was expecting when he hired me, I got more 'laid back' when I started working here. Apparently I was showing more ambition when I worked at Robeks making fruit smoothies for him.

So that was Friday. He didn't show up yesterday and he hasn't been here today yet either. I'd like to find a new job.


TL;DR: My job is fucked.

I'm in a similar job situation tbh. I'll probably just end up getting a transfer, but I don't want to move upstate right now.
