Those harmonies were hard to figure out! For almost every Beatles song with harmonies there is a video that breaks them down and isolates them for you, but I couldn't find one for that song, so I had to figure it out by ear, which is difficult and involves a lot of guesswork.
I'm not certain I got them the same as the record but I was happy with how they turned out!
In other news, the first three mixes for our latest songs are done, now we just need to get them mastered. Getting someone else to do it has made a huge difference, they sound far better than I could ever have got them to had I mixed them myself.
These new songs have a much different sound to the last album too. Less classic rock, more alternative is how I'd describe the change in sound. The guy who is mixing them said the sound of these songs is "like a dialled back grunge/rock or a softer smashing pumpkins."
I think that's quite fitting. If anyone wants to hear the mixes and provide feedback, message me. I've already sent it to those of you who asked for the demos a while ago
Oh and here's a strange story: I got a call from a withheld number yesterday from someone who described himself as a filmmaker and photographer, who said he wanted to work with us. He then proceeded to reel off some ideas he had for a music video. Here are the highlights:
- His first video idea was to have me underwater playing Chess. Good start.
- A video of me standing in a field with explosions going on all around me. "Using a green screen obviously?" I asked. "No," he replied, "I can get some real explosions. You might get a bit messy so let me know if you're okay with that, I don't want to work with anyone who is boring." Ah yes, because as we all know only a total bore would not want to stand in a field while a stranger detonates explosives all around you.
- A much calmer idea he had was to have me standing in the sea with all my clothes on, or in a wet suit. This was the closest he came to making a sane suggestion, prompted by me saying I'd like to do something at the beach maybe.
- Me getting custard dripped on my head. Sanity didn't stick around for too long...
- Me slowly sinking in a paddling pool full of slime (why does this guy keep trying to drown me?)
- Him throwing things at me (he wouldn't say what, but he still asked if I'd be okay with that)
He kept saying "I bet you're glad I called you aren't you?"
"No," I thought. "I'm trying to figure out if you're a prank caller or a serial killer."
Never a dull moment in this town...the music bizness attracts so many weirdos.

Signup below if you are willing to help me critique my future songs ahead of release. What this would entail:
I'll send you my songs when I get the masters, and you then critique them, rate them out of 5, pick which ones you think are best suited as singles etc.

I haven't forgotten about this btw, we just haven't recorded any new songs yet. That's going to change soon.
Quick update, for those of you who are interested: Our next album is almost done, I've given up on the last two songs I wanted to add to it, because I can't come up with a good lyric. So we are calling it a day on this project. It's going to be an 8 song album. Short and sweet.
We have enjoyed putting these new songs out there this year, but we are eager to move on now. We have become increasingly aware that our production quality is lacking. We know it can sound way better, and we're gradually figuring out how to get to the sound we want for whatever we do next. All that said, we are proud of the album, and look forward to sharing it later this year.
It started out as this ridiculous idea to retell the story of Odysseus' journey home in song form, but it hasn't really turned out the way I envisioned. I guess I was trying to live up to my reputation for being a pretentious asshole. Anyway, the songs are littered with references to Greek Myth as a result. I suck at lyrics so I have to embrace whatever words sing well and run with them.
We released the 5th and possibly final single in the run up to the albums release today. The music video is premiering in a few hours. There's a link below if you're interested.
