Definitely got some Lost S6 vibes from this, although this definitely fit better with the rest of the show for me (prob cuz Esmail actually had it mapped out in advance, that Times Square bit was cool to see in a new context). Definitely had the same vibe of pushing almost the entire plot to the side and focusing in on just the characters (in this case, character)
Shot of the episode goes to Angela standing in the arcade, loved that. It was like an album cover come to life
Guess I called it with the alt universe being all in Elliot's head. I just...don't really understand why White Rose left her entire plan in Elliot's hands? Like of course he was gonna try to stop it, unless she was THAT confident that she could get through to him? Why risk it tho
I still don't know exactly how I feel about this as the ending, but I think I like it? Playing it safe/conventional would've felt like a cop-out for this show, so it kinda had to end in a vein LIKE this. Definitely makes me wanna rewatch from the beginning already
I COMPLETELY forgot about that scene from s1. Boc your shot of the ep was from YEARS ago! This ep was Elliot tripping balls iirc and he imagines this entire thing, I just rewatched it in full. It cuts off with Angela saying "You're not Elliot, you're the m-" and everyone at the time apparently thought she was gonna say monster (cuz she mentions it right before) but this finale expanded on it and revealed she says mastermind. The "you're not Elliot" line being in episode 4 is crazy. I bet there are so many hints throughout the series
I was skeptical as it was going along because I really didn't wanna spend so much time in an alt universe that didn't 'matter' to the main plot and was worried it would all end with Elliot just taking altElliot's life. And while they still spent a lil more time there than I would've liked, what we got towards the end of it + back in the real world was more than worth it. I thought the ending was great. I didn't see the twist coming at all. I thought for SUUUUURE I was right about the two Christian Slaters and apparently the entire internet did too, it seemed to fit so well. Glad I wasn't though since the original Mr. Robot reveal and s2 prison reveal weren't surprises for me. I'm so glad the biggest twist really got me in the end
Ending with a strong focus on Elliot's identity and his relationship with Darlene/Angela was really the right way to go. I would've loved some incredibly tense, classic Mr. Robot final sequences with Elliot having to pull off some shit against Whiterose but this was a better way to go about it tbh. One gripe, I kinda wish we got more Christian Slater by the end and some more closure between Elliot and Mr. Robot
While I'm on the subject, biggest gripe throughout the series would be the way they handled Tyrell. I just wish we got more there, he was such a great character early on. Otherwise I think they nailed this final season character wise. EVERYONE got their fair share of focus and some great final moments. Darlene, Dom, Vera, Krista, Price, Whiterose, Leon and Irving cameos, etc. Everyone was balanced super well. I agree tho Boc, I was really hoping Shayla would be in that hallway. Maybe as Vera as a cleaned up, loving boyfriend. That'd be great. Missed opportunity. Also kinda wish he original hacking group was brought back for a small bit
This is the first show in awhile that ended and made me immediately wanna rewatch from the start. I'm super curious to see what else can be picked up on now that we know the twist, but besides that the show was just pretty much perfect and I wanna experience it all again. I'll miss it terribly, one of my all time favorites. Rami gave one of the best tv performances I've seen. And this has gotta be one of the most consistent shows out there. S1 was classic but I think S3 took it to new heights and had an insane string of amazing episodes. 3>1>4>2 for me. Esmail handled everything perfectly
ya def recognized the song, had no idea that was part of the hallucination sequence from S1 tho. I do remember Esmail saying at some point that that sequence was KEY and rife with future clues, it's crazy that he was able to freely say that AND not have people immediately deduce them AND have them still make sense. v impressive
And yeah, for sure one of my all-time favs. I think this would be neck-and-neck with BB for my #2 show
1=3 > 4 >>> 2. I didn't HATE 2 or anything, but it does stick out compared to the rest
Honestly, kinda related to what you said Curtis, I think a big part of what keeps 1 even with 3 for me is how damn good the Wellicks are in that season. They MADE that season almost as much as Elliot/Mr. Robot did. It happened a while ago now but I think Joanna got shafted just as hard as Tyrell tbh, when she was kinda set up to be the bigger threat of the two. At least she died before her character took a downturn like Tyrell's I guess? But yeah, def agree with that downturn being one of the most disappointing things about the show (one of the only, really)
She was def gone far too soon. That's gotta be one of the most surprising character deaths I've ever seen in a show, I remember being SHOCKED. Mostly because of how insanely good she was
I wonder if Joanna originally had more of a role to play somehow with the 'real' Elliot? There was that one scene in S1 where she seemed to know exactly what was going on with Elliot but it never came up again, I'm very curious what the intention behind that was (or was meant to be)
Also it was cool to see Tyrell's Escalade come back, which was always related to one of the biggest mysteries of the show. Not sure it was TOTALLY answered but I'm kinda assuming this means that 'real' Elliot took over for that gap of time? We know it wasn't Mastermind Elliot or Mr. Robot, and I can't really see it being the mom/kid
Yeah that mysterious (3 day?) stretch of time that he's missing must've been the real Elliot. I wonder if there are scenes where we were actually watching the real Elliot without realizing it
Finely had the time to watch the last 2 episodes. What a lovely ending of a show. Wrapped everything up nicely and gave most loved characters closure. Enjoyed this show immensely. sad that it's gone
Just now finished the last season (had it saved up on the DVR). Definitely enjoyed the last season a lot. As far as pure story goes, it's definitely up there in the top couple of shows I've watched (I'd still say The Americans is my all-time favorite).
To have the story so well planned out from the beginning, to drop all those hints along the way, is just mind-blowing to me.
It was brilliant after all, but also way too slow for me personally tbh. I just cannot sit and watch and wait that long, even though it was worth the wait in the end. The final plot twist was really good and I like how it explains a lot of things. Didn’t have a clue really, but then, I didn’t have a clue in S2 either and I really liked how they did that.
Also, the last 3 seasons didn’t have enough Tyrell (and his botox doll), i think we can all agree. He was one of the best characters in any series ever for me. Would have liked to see more of that OTT craziness throughout - bit of a missed opportunity there.
