I wish they'd routinely show idol scenes where they don't find it or when that is the reason they are going to get voted out.

Eh, I'd say they already spend too much time on the search. I'd rather something like the following happen: someone announces they're going to collect firewood by themselves, they disappear for most of the episode, later they pull out the idol like "SURPRISE MOTHAFUCKA that's where I was the past day and a half!"

they did that in micronesia. Amanda pulled out an idol. We knew she was trying to dig for it but they didnt show her actually getting it. It was quite obvious she did but I think that'd be a lot more fun.

I feel like they felt like they could only do that because it was a last minute dig.

Part of the reason I think mine would be funny is that it would take a highly visible player off the screen for a good 30 minutes and allow for some visibility balance as well as a clever editing joke.
