well sadly they will never get shorter. less games per round means less money and that will never happen. maybe the regular season will get cut down to 72 games again but be offset with the play in tournament becoming permanent and maybe some other gimmick. |
Teams right now can play a maximum of 28 games (30 if they go through the full play-in scenarios) in the NBA playoffs. Their regular season is normally 82 games. This means the playoffs are equivalent to 34% of a regular season. This is just too much.
For comparison:
MLB: 162 games - 20 games max playoffs (12%)
MLS: 32 games - 7 games max playoffs (22%)
NFL: 16 games - 4 games max playoffs (25%) -- this year it'll be 17 total games (23%)
NHL: 82 games - 28 games max playoffs (34% - same as NBA)
If MLB can play twice as many games in a season and can finish their playoffs in a little more than half the games, the NBA (and NHL) can do it too. By having so many playoff games, it diminishes the regular season (see: all the stupid rest of players in the regular season), as teams and players know that they may have another 1/3 of a season come playoff time. Series should not be any longer than 5 games, except MAYBE the championship series.

i agree with you and it used to be that way. sadly there is to much money involved now for them to reduce the number of playoff games. also fun fact, MLB once had a best of 11 games World Series.

If you are invested in a team the 7 game playoff is great. I feel like the MLB is criticized for not having playoffs match the regular season and not being a great representation of the true championship.
As a casual I kind of agree. I was invested in the conference finals of both nba and nhl and the finals my interest was gone. I’ll probably watch tomorrow though. | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"

congrats Boc. now you get to watch Portis walk because you guys can only offer him the taxpayer mid level. at least all the other key players are under contract.
for the Suns Paul has a player option, might not take it but re-sign for less per year and 2+ years. Suns also dont have any other key pending free agents.

for some stupid reason i watched the USA v Iran game live overnight. i came away from it thinking that if the US team does not hit at least 40% of there three point shots against a team with a few real bigs and actual depth they will be in big trouble. i assume this is why they lost to France who has Gobert and Poirer

Pistons drafted a couple really nice pieces last year with Bey and Stewart. Who knows what Hayes will be.
Grant was a stud FA pick up too.
They should be positioned to pick up 1 top FA over the next couple seasons.
Exciting times for Detroit sports teams over all. |

I hope the Pistons have a sick new 3rd jersey. I am definitely going to get a Cunningham one this year | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"
