Thor 2 is absolutely the worst Marvel movie to me, maybe one of the worst movies I've seen (I've avoided a lot of bad movies lol). It was one of the first movies I saw in a nice theater (recliners) and I couldn't believe I spent extra money on it. 3 was fun, maybe a little too fun in relation to what's actually going on in the movie but a lot better than the first two. 1 wasn't as bad as I remember it being when I watched it last month though, probably like it even more than Captain America 1 now.
There was one minor thing that bugged me about Civil War
I like that trailer and I’ve watched it a handful of times (I’m a movie trailer nerd). But they went with alternate takes of certain lines for the final cut, it was annoyingly noticeable to me. Best example is Tony’s great “so was I” from the trailer. RBJ kills that line, it’s maybe my favorite shot/line in the MCU and got me excited for this movie. But the one they used for the final cut of the movie wasn’t nearly as good/impactful, it sorta ruined that moment. Pissed me off!!!!!!! You know? Anyone? ..guys?
I bet if I saw it when it came out I'd have disliked it immensely compared to Iron Man. I mean..I still dislike it immensely compared to Iron Man, but I think going in with the lowest possible expectations helped a whoooole lot. Again, it's a fun/unique perspective being so late to the party on a movie like this and filling in the backstory gaps with Thor and Loki and their relationship
It's probably the best of the ones I don't like. I really sorta dumbed myself down for it and was surprised by some actual GOOD humor which is incredibly rare in the MCU. The humor here worked as opposed to the really cringey jokes that later movies felt like they needed to shove in there. All later movies felt like they got the same writer to come in for re-writes and add some really dumb shit. But the fish out of water stuff with Thor was amusing. Walking into the pet store and yelling "I NEED A HORSE!" made me lol. Shattering the mug onto the ground "ANOTHER!" was funny. And when he approached Coulson and called him son of Coul. So good. They nailed those bits
The love story was pretty bad but there were still a couple of sweet moments. I actually really liked how Thor/Jane and Captain/Peggy were two MISSED CONNECTIONS stories. Thor destroying the bridge here to cut him off from her and Captain being frozen as Peggy ages way ahead of him and his "I had a date" line was good. Both love stories sorta subverted expectations with how they'd finish up which was nice
I didn't like Asgard at all. The look wasn't good. Nothing too interesting about it. I did like the contrast between Asgard and the tiny New Mexico town he was banished to
Strongest stuff was the family drama theme surrounding Thor/Loki/Odin. Nice to finally see the beginning of that after watching The Avengers. All three are great actors, especially Loki and Odin. The scene where Odin tells him the truth about his birth was a strong one. Loki still remains one of the best MCU villains. And Thor's quick (too quick) character development throughout this movie was good. I wish something more traumatic happened to him partway through to start him off on his changes BUT at least he actually changed and wasn't one dimensional
ALL IN ALL not too bad. The CGI in general was super dated and the fight scenes were dumb, but there weren't many at all which I actually really enjoyed. The story was somewhat grounded in drama instead of action and spectacle which was also a plus. It's nice watching these movies that came out just before Marvel found its winning formula and turned out movies in drones. I'd sorta rather watch a movie like this that tried something different and fell flat at the time instead of the formulaic stuff we mostly get today
Hulk is a fun movie. Just yes it's not actually part of mcu in think except for cut scene
Rodney is a great guy. Oops, nevermind he's a terrible human being.
He likes his sandwiches to be Turkey and Swiss. Triangle cut. Let vern have his crust. Poison the part Rodney eats.
