I thought it was exactly as disappointing as I was worried it would be
It wasn't offensively bad it was just horribly mediocre. With THAT amount of hype and work leading up to it..for it to be so average is such a shame. I've never seen such wasted potential
Throwing unlikely people from the MCU together for the first time is just not enough for me. It can be charming and make me go heh but that's it. That seemed to be enough for many people. My audience fucking LOST it at several scenes like that. Also when Stan Lee was revealed as Peter's bus driver my audience.fucking.HOWLED. They had never seen anything so funny. It was the best day of all their lives, they literally squealed and gave a round of applause and that was just the beginning. It was a single moment that summed up how easily Marvel can get away with this barely passable mediocrity
Also Thor getting an eye back is such a great analogy for what I hated about this. No consequences ever. This movie was all the stuff I hate about Marvel movies crammed into one final act. People were WEEPING at the ending. But...why? None of them except for boring Vision are dead so why are you crying, I really don't get it. People die all the time in these movies and come right back which I can't stand. This movie did that on a grander scale and asked you to care. It's so unsatisfying and meaningless
They should've stuck with the original title of Part I to really remind people that this is just the set up, because that's all it was. Thanos just goes from place to place and gets the stones and that's the only point of the movie. The real sacrifices should come in part two (of the Iron Man/Captain America variety) but until then they really wussed out with this one. I read a bunch of stuff about how it pulled no punches and how audiences weren't ready for how emotionally draining it is. HUH??? The whole movie was one big pulled punch
There were three scenes in a row that I really liked in the middle. I think it was...Star Lord meets Iron Man and co, Thor with Rocket/Groot, and Star Lord again with Iron Man when they were planning. Drax still outshines everyone. I made that post earlier about how there's so much talent in the MCU but Dave Bautista out of all people may outshine them all and it was so true here, he killed it. "How long have you been standing there?" "One hour." He was great. GotG remain the best, their scenes were easily the most enjoyable
I did roll my eyes at yet another hero on hero fight scene that they had to find a way to cram in there. Iron Man vs Star Lord! Spiderman vs ...Nebula! Only good bit was Drax vs. Doctor Strange's cape
13th out of 19 and my least favorite out of the mediocre ones

I'm surprised with how much I've seen this kind of reception to it, but I guess I kind of understand.....kind of. Funny how there seems to be little middle ground though, people are either disappointed and think it's a mess, or it's the greatest thing ever. I guess for me, even knowing that all the people that turned to dust will probably come back, seeing them go away still really hit, especially Peter.
And Gamora died for real too and deserves respect lol, same w/ Loki, which gave Thor some actual character development in a film where that was light imo. I definitely think there were some consequences in this movie, even if some will be reversed, and others likely will not. Plus we don't know what Part 2 has in store and for set-up, I feel like they did more than enough to make you give a crap about where it goes in Part 2, a wuss out to me would have been having Thanos not even win at the end of this one.
Things are in shambles at the end of this one, even if in the back of our heads we know they're gonna fix it next time, it's kind of like Empire Strikes Back in a way. We know things will probably end well, but they got fucked up in the process, and that was entertaining imo. Idk, I guess I just don't get what else they were supposed to do. 100% agree with Bautista stealing the show and the Guardians being the best part though, Marvel always gets me to chuckle, but I was laughing hard in all of their scnes.

I meant to say this but I'm not convinced that Loki or Gamora are even dead for good tbh. Those just didn't feel like permanent deaths to me so they did nothing for me while I was watching them. Loki could've been some trick and I can see them reversing shit and bringing Gamora back the way they're gonna bring everyone who vanished back
People who have died before and came back...Loki, Bucky, Groot, Coulson, Nick Fury, Pepper, etc. They do it all the time. I get it because it happens constantly in the comics but I still hate it and even if Loki/Gamora are dead for good then this habit of theirs still sorta killed those two moments for me
The only two that felt like deaths were Vision and Idris Elba
Curtis you come off as “that guy”. But that’s why I love you for your opinion and incite

I would rather be that guy than that guy in front of me who was openly weeping when Black Panther disappeared or crying laughing when Banner slapped himself to try to turn into the Hulk. Huuuuh??
SO I have a few qualms with the opening scene. I thought it was weird when Idris Elba used his teleportation power and only sent Hulk to Earth. Why didn't he send Thor/Loki away too? I started laughing because I imagined Thor being like...wow okay Idris.
I thought the Loki death was really forced and didn't nearly have the impact that it could have. Blindly attacking Thanos didn't seem like a Loki thing to do. It felt like he threw himself into a situation that he knew was going to get him killed instead of trying to join Thanos/find a way to escape. Loki is such a big character and it sucks that his death felt so rushed and avoidable.
I get the film's ambition of trying to fit in so many people, but it really was a lot to swallow. Thanos is essentially the main character of this movie and even though he had more character weight than I thought he would, watching him go from planet to planet collecting stones became a little boring. It's like watching a friend play a video game that they've already beaten a million times.
The writing for Marvel is super hit or miss for me. It works great with the GOTG cast who continue to have great chemistry together but in scenes like the "Iron Man: Ben and Jerry flavor" conversation, they feel super forced and way too long. Did anyone else feel like that Piper and Tony scene was really weird? It felt like they placed them in a park, tied a sweater around RDJ neck and told them to improv their way through a conversation about having a baby.
ALSO, you knew a movie with so many stars was gonna suffer somewhere and I got three letters for you. C-G-I. Poor Don Cheadle and Mark Ruffalo looked like floating heads when they were in their respective machine outfits.
The problem with this ending is that there really is no resolution, it's just a marketing cliffhanger. I'm surprised that the post-credit scene wasn't just a message of where to go pre-order your Infinity War 2 tickets. I get that you want to end it on a Thanos victory, but the whole movie was a sequence of Thanos victories. And kind of what Curtis said, all these people that we see disappear are almost guaranteed to come back!
Oh and by the way...where the fuck was Thor when Thanos was kicking everyone's ass in Wakanda and taking the final stone? Was he on a lightening cooldown?
Quick game. How many times did Thanos ask for a stone while torturing someone until someone else said "STOP! PLEASE DON'T! JUST TAKE THE STONE!"?

THREE TIMES! IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES!
Things I did like!
-GOTG continue to carry the Marvel universe. Watch out DWAYNE, there's a new WWE actor coming for your spot.
- Red Skull showing back up was pretty cool, I was hoping for a Capt v Red Skull rematch but I've got a sinking feeling that it isn't going to happen.
-Josh Brolin was great. Made Thanos a lot more compelling than I thought it he would.
-Spiderman and Iron Man interactions were great. It made me really want to watch Homecoming.
This might’ve been a lot better if Thanos was slowly but surely collecting the stones throughout the previous 18 movies (in post credit scenes and such) so his presence was felt as he got stronger and stronger and it built and built towards this. Then at the start of this one he finally got the last one or two
Instead this whole installment just felt like delaying the inevitable for part two
I started watching this and said to myself holy shit WHO are these two terrible dudes they have no idea how to run this thing and they blow. And then I realized they were the Russo brothers aka the directors (:
One of those two GoT directors we always talk about would be great for a movie of this scale. Like imagine Neil Marshall who did the great sweeping shot through Castle Black doing one of those for an Avengers fight scene
