Except other than the fact that they are calling them all "woodsman", there is really nothing that ties them together appearance wise. The FWWM characters definitely are sooty black. These new folks are much closer to the thing in the alley:

I did think the idea that Laura was sent down as some force of good was a bit...odd. It was definitely surprising once I realized that's what the intention was, but I just didn't get that vibe from Laura in the original run. I don't think they had her in mind for that role back then

The episode before last actually seemed like it was moving the plot, then last episode just kind of died again. Too many side plots that seem to mean almost nothing.

If they aren't going to make Carl (Harry Dean Stanton) do really anything, just don't even bother.

I have really been struggling with getting past the first couple of episodes of the original series. I've considered just jumping into the 2017 one- will I be insanely confused?

lol this is a really difficult question to answer

I struggled too. Hardcore. I watched the first few and then gave up and then years later decided to finally power through. I'm always hard pressed to talk about how much I do or do not love the show but I don't regret watching it? And I'm still watching it so there's that

But I definitely don't think you're better off skipping the original run and jumping into this, this new season is another level of confusion and frustration and yes you would be unbelievably lost. I'd say you should try to power through season 1 and the first 6 or so of season 2 and if you're not game at that point then I'd leave it

There is no way I would jump right to the new show. The references to the original show would be even more confusing without watching it. Stuff like:

- Why did that guy's head float around in space like that when the woman fell off the tower thingy?
- Why is the Pentagon interested in the headless body that appears to be about 45 years old?
- Why are their three different guys who look the same except for hair (and, in the case of original recipe Dougie Jones, weight)?
- Why is everyone laughing when that chick (who happens to be Shelly from TOS) says that "James is cool- James has always been cool"?

Though, even watching the original you'll still have questions. You'll just have more.

FWWM is probably the highlight of everything. You need to watch the whole first season and selected portions of the second to make it worthwhile, though.
