The 29th season of CBS’ Survivor has begun filming in Nicaragua, and host Jeff Probst says that two contestants left the show 48 hours before the competition began for medical reasons.
“We just lost two contestants [Friday],” Probst tells EW’s Dalton Ross, who’s hosting EW Morning Live with Jessica Shaw from the set of Survivor: San Juan del Sur — Blood vs. Water all week on Entertainment Weekly Radio. “We came out here with 20. We spend months casting our show — months. I mean, this is like….who you’re gonna ask to prom. All year you’re like, ‘Is it her or her?’ and ‘Will she say yes?’ And you finally get your 20 people, and then through no fault of their own — just a medical situation — they can’t play…. So instead of 20, it puts us at 18. Instead of equal men and women, it puts us uneven men and women.”
Listen to Probst explain why the show must go on in the clip below. Bonus: You’ll also hear a Survivor helicopter pass overhead. |

Uneven Men and Women, so M/M or F/F dropped.
Let's hope it was F/F Twinnies?

Must have been a F/F drop or Probst would recast the whole season
Sort of weird that there were no alternates though, even if it was late in the process. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I guess they have alternates up until they take promo photos? I feel like they would have been able to redo that though...so maybe they sent the alternates home? Makes me worry that it could have been something sudden/serious.

That sucks!! Fianlly a 20 person (newbie) season again, and then this happens. There are plenty of alternatives.

Yeah, they must have sent the replacements home, but that still seems silly. They should keep them around until filming Day 1 starts so they don't end up with the problem they had in Fiji.
Imagining Probst's face as he waves at the plane leaving with all the unsuccessful hopefuls they flew out, then turning around and seeing someone fall over because their appendix just ruptured is a funny image to me | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

Some say it doesn't exclude a M/F drop, as it would lead to uneven M/F in the tribes. *shrug*
