DLC doesn't ruin modern video games, its greedy assholes like EA who ruin them by deliberately holding back content that should be in the initial release and dressing it up as expansion packs.

Seems to be a company policy of theirs to get people paying more and more for less and less.

Yeah I don't have a problem with DLC if it's ADDING quality content on top of the game (New Vegas and BioShock Infinite are good examples of this) rather than selling shit that should've been in the original game. But I think that's what Curtis meant anyway

I let this install throughout most of yesterday on my PC, only to find out my graphics card is too shit to run it. Game won't start.

Can't say I'm bothered though. I was stoked about this game when it was announced, but when I learnt EA were making it I figured they would end up fucking it up.

Those of you who are playing it, how does it stand up to 1 & 2?

in short:

bad:
- Maps are way worse/less interesting. Plus from what it sounds like, even WITH the DLC it's gonna have far less maps than the originals
- No local splitscreen (at least on PC, I dunno if that was already the case in the originals tho because I had it on Xbox)
- No classes
- No command posts (technically the escape pod thing on Sullust is similar, but you're just fighting for one at a time so it's kinda like a CTF hybrid)
- Not a huge fan of the random pickups. I liked how they did it in Battlefront 2 where you unlocked things based on how well you were doing

- Not necessarily a bad thing, but the health is now auto-regenerating like any other modern shooter. So instead of all the scrambling around you'd have to do to find health when you were low, all you have to do is hide for a few seconds. I don't think it's necessarily better or worse this way, but it definitely changes the gameplay a lot

good:
- still has third person mode
- sound effects are p awesome, especially for the thermal imploder and when you're inside the shield
- graphics are very good

I agree with a lot of what Boc said, though I'm okay with no classes since they allow for you to customize your "hands" as you unlock things. It bothers me more that there is regenerating health, but I'll manage.

The # of maps issue was announced early enough where I've just accepted it. I'm still buying this at release, they can thank the smart release time with The Force Awakens hype for why they're getting me at full price.

They announced 3 more game modes yesterday too

With all the game modes, it's so much better than what we saw in the beta. There's really nothing special about this tbh, but I still love it.

The reviews are pretty much exactly how I thought they'd be after the beta. Amazing to look at, but almost no depth whatsoever

Probably just gonna wait a while til it goes on sale or they've possibly released a GOTY edition. I'll be trying it out on Saturday though

I know I'll have fun running around killing people as Leia, but I'm still gonna wait for a sale.

Walker Assault (40 players)

It's hardly surprising that Star Wars Battlefront's best mode is also its showcase one, bringing all aspects of the game together with a unique set-up focusing on one of the series' most iconic vehicle types and recreating one of its most famous set-pieces.

The reason this works is because each side's role perfectly reflects theirs in the films. Rebels face seemingly insurmountable odds as one or two enormous AT-AT walkers descends upon them, while the Empire feels a sense of power either carried through to the end of a match or evaporated by Rebel heroics.

That last bit is why I love Walker Assault

I'm having a lot of fun so far but I'm a big Battlefield fanboy so maybe that's why. I have very few complaints tho. It all feels extremely authentic and captures being in the Star Wars universe so well, better than most Star Wars games that I've played anyway

A lot of that might have to do with the updated graphics, they're pretty amazing. Sometimes I'll find myself walking away from the battle on Endor to check out the view of the huge lake off the side or the battles in the far distance or whatever. No maps are revelatory compared to other games but they capture the look and mood of the planets and locations extremely well, there's a ton of detail

Even just the way people take hits or die or yell feels straight out of the movies. I wish they'd include random wilhelm screams from time to time

I'd say it's an acceptable modern day shooter but a very good Star Wars experience

I got an xbox one for christmas and I am thinking hard about buying battlefront for it since my computer is a turd that wouldn't be able to run it.

I think it's worth it. If you enjoy the replayability of Battlefield and Call of Duty then you'll get your moneys worth

I played it once and don't really feel the need to play it again. I enjoyed it but beyond the pretty graphics (the presentation IS honestly near perfect) there really isn't much there. I felt like I expended all the game has to offer in just a few hours. Whereas I've poured countless hours into the first two and still will play them with friends from time to time to this day. Probably just comes down to a matter of taste though since I never really cared for the Battlefield/COD type games

I think if they make a sequel it could be better, since now they have the engine in place and can actually y'know, add more than just 4 planets. And add back command posts pls

Agreed. Played beta. Turned it off. It was a shit game that was made to grab mow your and force you to buy DLC. No thanks. BO3 is better.

The game is okay in short stints for me. I really enjoy the heroes vs villains game mode and the entire game is better if you're partied up with a friend.

For as frustrated as it gets me that Call of Duty continues to dive deeper into the futuristic, Black Ops 3 is still the cream of the crop for FPS this year and it's hard to put a lot of time into a less polished money grabbing game like Battlefront.

I've barely played it since they announced that there would be no Episode VII DLC. Really disappointing IMO
