FE wasn't loading for me, but I meant to post:
The first half was the quickest half hour of television I've ever watched. It flew by.
And at some point later I wanted to say, "oh men"

That was near perfect IMO
I'm really glad they didn't try to pull off any final twist. I liked speculating all season whether Rust or Marty were somehow the killer, but I'm not sure I would've liked it if they went down that route
That setting...holy moly. What a brilliant final set piece that house was. The house, the overgrown lawn and forest around it, and that weird LABYRINTH at the end. That was all so perfect
Errol(?) and his...wife..sister...mother, whatever, were great. So creepy. The interior of the house was so disgusting and I was so afraid at what Marty might find while walking around in there
That entire stretch from once they arrived was so tense. Knowing that the characters wouldn't come back in the show really made me fear for their lives while they were exploring the property.
Those somewhat typical scenes where the villain's voice booms throughout the room and taunts the hero who somehow can't locate him are always kinda silly to me. BUT, the stuff he was saying was creepy enough and the voice was so perfect so I didn't mind it. Cole's vision was great, and that fight scene. Damn. I really thought one of them was done for. It was so brutal
Everything at the hospital was perfect. Such great acting from the two of them. Marty crying in the bed while surrounded by his family was really good. I loved that they kept up their banter towards the end too. Marty asking him what his deal was and calling him an asshole one last time, then the both of them weakly flipping each other off. I really feared for THIS instead:
*marty wheels away*
Cole: Hey Marty..
*marty turns around*
Cole: ....thanks :)
I would've puked. So glad they kept it real and in line with the characters. Then that final monologue from Rust, talking about how he wanted to slip into death and felt close to his daughter. DAMN! What a perfect final scene. Probably my favorite Rust monologue all season. Terrific acting from McConaughey. There's no way he doesn't win an Emmy this year. And I loved that it ended with a tiny bit of optimism from Rust too
Wut a show. Glad it didn't wrap up too neatly and they still couldn't take down the Tuttle's and were banged up physically/emotionally by the end. I dunno how season two can match this but I'm really excited to see what they do with it |

Just finished watching

NATURALLY I would've liked a darker ending since I rarely like when dramas tie things up in a bow (especially a show of this tone). Not that this show exactly did that, I did think the ending we got was pretty good
But I think it would've been a more powerful ending if it just cut off when Cohle/Hart looked up at the flare overhead and their fates are left ambiguous. I thought for a second that that'd be the case. It really seemed set up like a FINAL SHOT (obviously I wasn't paying attention to the time (: )
I also felt like a lot of the Errol stuff felt a little...over-the-top. The whole MAZE and the ridiculously weird house. I did LIKE how creepy it all was but at the same time it didn't really feel in line with the realism of the rest of the show. I feel like the showdown with LeDoux was a lot more effective than this was, because it showed more restraint. I'm guessing they just wanted to RATCHET IT UP since it was the finale (and 'main villain')
But anyway despite all that VERY GUD SHOE! I thought the build-up was better than the payoff but that's usually the case anyway.
BRING ON S2! |

i dunno boc

the show has always had some OCCULT shit going on in the background, and i thought for how over the top it was it was also the NEXT LOGIKUL STEP in a lot of ways. it's them confronting some kind of DEVIL, and i was quite unsettled by that entire segment!
strangely i thought the hospital scenes felt sort of dreamlike, like something outside of the rest of the show. The soundtrack began to DRONE when Marty's family came in, and everything was just shot very weirdly. don't know what that means but i guess i didn't expect a happy ending (:
i was expecting every scene after the flare to be the FINAL SCENE (Marty crying, Rust staring at the television) but i think i wasn't expecting the emotion of the final scene. i figured the whole show would conclude with NIHILISM, something abrupt/No Country for Old Men-like, and instead we got that beautiful monologue. Seeing Rust and Marty care for each other was the real PAYOFF of the whole show.
So yeah I really liked it. The horror elements, the emotion, the surprisingly violent climax, everything was great. I still think episode 5 was the best the show had, but the fact that it was able to resolve so satisfactorily with all the expectation i had going in was nice. |

Five was probably my favorite too. I didn't think four could be topped at the time, but five was such a well thought out transition that I didn't expect at all

So it will be two female leads. That's pretty kul. I just hope they can find some leads even close to the caliber of Harrelson/McConaghey

(: not that

been reading a lot of reactions and i really don't care for the view that the THEORIES were somehow more captivating than the actual show. why did people want maggie's dad to be at the HART of the conspiracy? why couldn't aubrey's dysfunction have been left a mystery? why do people need for these things to be RESOLVED? |

People are stupid. Those people watch shows like this for the wrong reasons I feel. The conspiracy theories were fun but if it all ended with Maggie's dad stepping out of the shadows holding up a painting of the repeated flower pattern, I would've turned my TV off
This show was clearly about the characters. Do a lot of people seem >:((( over the finale? I figured quite a few would be. I saw one article that said "nothing happened." I think "nothing happened" is my least favorite critique |

Would you have tho (: I'm pretty sure if they decided to go that way they would've executed it well enough to make it a good ending. It's not really the ending I would've wanted but I'm sure they could've got plenty of good drama out of Hart with his stepdad being under his nose the whole time
I haven't read anyone that was >:((( about the finale at all. I think it's pretty much been positive across the board. I think most people have been more 'satisfied' than wowed by it though |
