This show is giving the game justice.
I really enjoyed the game, and I really enjoy the show. | |

good stuff. Only complaint was some events felt a bit rushed here, there was a bit of checking off boxes in the later half of this ep. But definitely some really strong individual scenes
|
nailed the big Joel and Ellie argument scene, not surprised that was left pretty much untouched. 10/10, that hit me right in the gut, especially Joel's reaction to Ellie bringing up Sarah
...was a bit undercut by the next scene where they reunite after a couple words tho. That was one of those moments that felt a biiit rushed
some CUTE dialogue on their way to Colorado, it was nice to see Joel actually smile a bit. "Everyone LOVED contractors 🙂"
disappointed in survivalist Joel pulling the blade out of his torso. You dummy! |

it was...fine. The DLC didn't have much of an impact on me either so I guess it wasn't a letdown in that regard
The only issue I have really is where it was placed in the story. The Bill/Frank flashback seemed to fit better cuz it was early in the season and the action had barely started yet. But now we're right in the thick of it and they swerve into another flashback ep? Ehhh. I think it would've sat better if it was at least intercut with more present day scenes
With only two eps to go now, it sure feels like they have a lot of ground to cover in increasingly little time. The pacing felt almost perfect in the first half of the season but it's been pretty shaky in the last few. Hopefully they can stick the landing! |

Nah I totally get why they did the flashback here. They had to show Ellie’s first true loss and her feeling of helplessness to show how she wasn’t going to give up on Joel. She’s going to do anything she can to hang on to a person she trusts. I’m not sure they could have put this part of her backstory in any other part of the season. |

I get the intent, I guess I just didn't love the execution. I feel like Ellie's single line from last week about everyone she ever cared about dying or leaving her was more impactful and went a longer way in conveying that than the entirety of this flashback, so idk if it was even necessary in the end
Also if there was more emotional catharsis between her and Joel here maybe it would've fell less flat, but as it was the present day scenes pretty much consisted of her fumbling around some drawers and suturing him up. Just felt like something was missing and maybe could've benefited from being 10+ minutes longer |

I liked this episode a whole lot more than I expected and certainly a lot more than the DLC -i barely remembered the DLC specifics.
I was worried they were gonna cut or shorten the David storyline but seeing next week's teaser has me excited. This section of the game was the scariest to me and also took the longest to get through. Super excited!

Ep 5
|
Heard this one was incredible. I was….sliiiightly let down? I thought it was good, 7/10. Some things bugged me
Ellie not telling the other two about the bite and just…going to sleep after smearing her blood on it? Cmon lol
Maybe I’m holding (the terrible) Yellowjackets against her but I thought Melanie Lynskey and her character were bleh. Pretty flat character for a villain overall. And a lame death. I think they could’ve done way more with her death and the standoff and that group overall
Perry was a highlight, cool that he was the Tommy VA. His death was brutal. Dumb that he sacrificed himself for her though. And immediately meaningless!
Henry and Sam were good, it was just obvious based on the reactions I saw to the ep that they were gonna die and that it’d be heartbreaking etc, but Bill and Frank (hard not to compare) were way more impactful imo
Just felt like the ep was missing a standout tense moment towards the end or a twist of the knife somewhere to really make it a standout

gooood stuff. Bella Ramsey definitely shined in this one, especially at the end
The David storyline is another part of the plot that was VERY foggy to me, I only remembered he was bad news but none of the details. So I was re-surprised when the cannibal thing came up (and the fact that Joel had killed his guy a couple eps ago). The diner part definitely jogged lots of memories of the annoying stealth section that I failed at many times lol. The feel of that part was definitely faithful
Troy Baker did well!
Can't believe there's only one ep left. I feel good about them sticking the landing but man, lotta ground still to cover |

a bit unrealistic for me to expect but I REALLY wanted to see the adaptation of David and Ellie fighting infected together before David reveals that they're hunting for Joel and Ellie. Besides that, hooo boy did I enjoy the episode. Especially the ending, super intense and gripping.
I'm afraid they're not gonna stick the landing tho. In part because I really loved the actual game ending and I've read some articles that make me think they're gonna deviate from it, don't know to what extent. That being said overall this has been phenomenal with maybe 2 eps at most being a bit sluggish. Gonna make myself finish part 2 of the game before season 2 comes out
