Just saw Catching fire and I loved it. I felt it really did the book justice too. I couldn't think of a scene I wish they had done. Maybe I'd feel different if I re-read the book again but from my memory it was successful. yay

Anyone else seeing Catching Fire tonight? |
I saw it! What did you think? |
I loved it! Thought it stayed true to the book/series. I will definitely go see it again, but this time during a school day so I don't have to deal with other people in the theater. Why do people go to a 10p showing if their bedtime was 9? Snoring? Really? lol
| A lesson without pain is meaningless. That's because no one can gain without sacrificing something. But by enduring that pain and overcoming it, he shall obtain a powerful, unmatched heart. A fullmetal heart. |

Haha yeah I saw it at midnight and there were people snoring when I went too. I thought it was really good too and feel like I need to see it again now that I understand certain parts since I didn't read the book.

The Chaser - A Korean thriller. The best kinds of thrillers! Really good movie. It's about a serial killer who targets prostitutes, their PIMP who tries to find him, and all the bumbling, inept cops along the way. Great acting and storytelling. Really sad as I'm finding every single Korean revenge thriller to be. Some great chase and fight sequences too
|
Watched another Korean thriller last night called The Yellow Sea. Turns out it was the same director as The Chaser
[racist]It even had the same two main actors but I couldn't even tell (: . The good guy from The Chaser was the bad guy in this and vice versa. I didn't recognize them at all.[/racist]
Pretty good movie. Some really brutal fight scenes. Some sequences were just an absolute bloodbath. Some really good Hitchcock-esque tension at times and more great chase sequences. Not quite as good as The Chaser but still pretty great
Both these movies are on Netflix instant if anyone's interested

The Tree of Life
Hard to put into words really. I really was NOT enjoying myself during the first 30 minutes or so. I don't know if it was because the volume was too low or because it had to buffer so much for me, but it took me like two hours to watch 30 minutes. I just wasn't digging the movie at the time at all. I was worried it'd be nothing but existential questions and disconnected scenic shots just for the hell of it
BUT! It picked up as it went along. I grew more attached to it. As Jack GREW and began to show how he felt about both his parents, it really felt like that was the glue that was holding everything together. If I wasn't so intrigued by the parents and by Jack, the entire thing would've seemed really pointless to me. The best moments were when the three main characters whisper what they believe are positive character traits, or what they think of each other
Seems like the type of movie that everyone will take something different from, and that's more than you can say for most movies so A+ for that. Beautiful cinematography too obviously. Really unique and creative way of pulling off some shots

yeah curt you gotta be patient when you're letting a movie load
that's respectable tho. the period of the movie showing jack's childhood is fantastic and absorbing. the editing flows so well, like it really is a collection of memories. it gets all the little details of the family's relationships right, and even lyrical shots of jessica chastain on a swing can't distract from how NATURALISTIC it all is.

Watched this movie on Netflix last night because I heard good things
TBH for whatever reason I don't usually enjoy movies with an ensemble female cast or movies with a cast full of child actors, so I was skeptical since this movie is about both those things. BUT it was really good. I liked it quite a bit

The Iceman. Pretty solid crime/mob movie. Michael Shannon plays the lead and he was fantastic as always. Some really great moments from him in this. He carries most of the movie

Catching Fire
Pretty good. I definitely liked it better than the first. Still certainly no Battle Royale tho (:
