My dad's health hasn't been great but this year it's been really worrying. He's not able to move around very much. Gets tired really easy. Can only mow one side of the front lawn before he needs to take a break. He's not getting younger and he still smokes. We went to Colorado last week to attend a game at Empower Field for the first time, something we've always wanted to do if the Jets came to town. And things took a turn for the worse. He was having these awful coughing fits while we were in the stadium and myself and the entire section was just really concerned. The uber driver said he was probably just having a hard time due to the elevation, but Price's elevation is higher than Denver's so I didn't buy it.
He finally went to a doctor today after much, much urging and it turns out he has COPD. And from the sounds of his symptoms, it's pretty severe. My stepmom also just found out a few weeks ago she has congestive heart failure. So I currently have a basement of two very sick people.
Not in a great place right now. |

Two recent depressing news for me!
I only found out recently that a good high school friend of mine was murdered back in the spring. Her husband shot her and is awaiting trial. Her 4 kids live with their godmother now.
My younger cousin (the one i used to babysit a lot during the early site days, alongside Giggle) is seeing an oncologist soon. It's not certain yet but he may have leukemia. He's only 18 and he's already been having a pretty rough time lately before this. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

good news bad news for me
good news: my cousin got checked out and he doesn't have leukemia! It turned out that he has an autoimmune disorder that's attacking his platelets called ITP. He's being treated and now that he knows what's wrong he can work with it, so it's good news overall even if this isn't something that can be cured
bad news: my other set of grandparents (my mom's parents) are both having issues. Apparently my grandma Connie (whos only 79) has dementia and my grandfather (just turned 80) has been her sole caretaker during all that. We didn't know about her having dementia; I'm not sure anyone knew until recently. My grandfather got an infection and now he's delirious and in severe shape in the hospital, and my grandmother's only caretaker is my grand aunt who's going through her own health problems. My grandfather's in bad enough shape that right now the discussions are about whether or not he has a power of attorney or a will. I'm probably going down to Texas in a few days to see them and see if I can help out. I'm not really close to these relatives but I am pretty experienced with senior care and dealing with hospitals. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I got fired last Friday.
Kind of a surreal, eerie feeling for me. And totally out of nowhere. I've been with Walmart for 12 years, matter of fact I got fired on my 12 year anniversary. The reason was bizarre and for something I had very little to do with. Basically a car got damaged in the automotive shop because two clowns let it slip off the jack and then didn't tell the customer. I was the only manager in the building when this happened. I thought I handled it fine when customer came back screaming his head off and we left on really good terms, shook hands, etc. Next thing you know I'm terminated over the whole thing. Literally last month, my boss gave me an exceeds on my evaluation, which is the first time I've gotten a really high score. She's been trying to get me to promote for the last year now and this year I was finally warming up to the idea of going for my own store. And then... gone. Just like that.
And it's scary. I don't have a degree. This has literally been my only job. Despite it being just Walmart, I rose up really quick and I worked up a pretty sizable income considering I don't have a formal education, been a home owner since I was 26 and have not had to worry about money seriously in a long time. Definitely not rich but I've been very comfortable.
I have no idea what I'm going to do. I live in a really small town and jobs are scarce. Nothing even comes close to the amount I was making before. I've put in a few applications but have only heard back from one place called Intermountain Electronics, which is basically manual labor centered around working on electrical and mining equipment. I am absolutely going to be out of place there but a lot of my friends work there as is and former Walmart people, but I don't feel like I'm going to go anywhere there. But I have an interview Monday regardless and we'll see where it goes.
Kind of at a total loss right now though. I don't think it completely hit me yet either because I got let go the day I was driving out for vacation and I just got home today. Not getting up for work tomorrow is going to feel strange.

Thank you :\
I got three interviews lined up already so that's a good thing. One for the job I'm not super excited about but likely to get no matter what doing manual labor. But I got two interviews for store managers at an Ace Hardscare that is just opening up in town and a GNC up north. I'm growing a bit more optimistic that anywhere but Walmart is going to be better for me and my mental health honestly. Just really weird doing something else because it's all I've ever done. But change might be really good for me. |

Got a job offer today for store manager of a GNC! They actually raised the pay up from their original offer, which was really unexpected and appreciated. Signed already and when my background check comes through, I'll be official. Still making a looooot less than I was, but my severance was pretty fat so as long as I budget properly, I should be fine.
Excited! I'm glad to be staying in the retail realm and running my own store is going to be fun. Much smaller scale should equal a lot less stress. Only issue with this place is the commute is going to be over an hour long as it's in a bigger town. But the more I think about it, the more I'm with it. |

Congratulations KC. Find some good podcasts for the drive. | "So, uh, what are we saying here? If we save LA from a nuclear bomb, then you and I can get together for dinner and a movie?"
