I agree that the MCU is cartoonish but that's exactly why I like it. I think it works better that way. There's been a plethora of "dark" and "gritty" superhero movies lately, and I'm getting a bit tired of that. It works for something like X-men which is entirely allegorical to issues of race in society, although the X-men movies strike a nice middle ground which is why they're by and large my favourite Marvel movies altogether.
I'm happy to see over the top cartoonish battles because I like the genre and it delivers exactly what I expect.

I also kind of disagree that Spiderman doesn't belong in that cartoon world. I think he does, and this is why I found the Amazing Spiderman movies incredibly drawn out and dull. Yes he's a kid and he has "issues" but they gel better in a comic background and not a teen drama background.
You can take a setting like Gotham and spin a dark, gritty noir story on the top of it because that's the tone of the story. This is why Batman as a campy cartoon is silly (although hilarious). I don't think the same applies to all of these guys.
The only real concern at this point is that there's going to be a clusterfuck in Infinity Wars trying to get too many characters in and it'll be just a checklist of "appearances".

Marvel isn't supposed to be cartoony like DC and vice versa (*cough*Dark Superman *cough*), another reason why the MCU bothers a bit. Though Batman and the original Avengers can get away a bit.

Agreed. I think the main problem is people thinking it should always be one way or the other. Different comic characters have different tones. Raimi's movies nailed Spiderman's tone perfectly

I still think that was far from the biggest problem with that movie (:

It was a dumb scene but I wouldn't say it's tonally inconsistent. There's a lot of intentional camp in those movies
