it's possible, but I interpreted that ending with the binders (with Rachel and Kate's names) as this being some kind of systematic thing against the young girls of the town
also
|
the more I think about that ending, the more I worry it'll end up like NICK. Where basically saving him meant he'd be alive for a couple more episodes but is so non-existent from then on that he might as well be dead. Really hope that isn't the case here

I really want this game after seeing a play through of episode 2. I love how you can go through everything and almost everything in the world can be interacted with. The developers really put a lot of time and effort into making everything have a consequence. My only gripe is the dialogue. It can be really cringey at times.

Not really. It's kinda like a 'what to expect' thing. There are choices I'm gonna make and rewind on in my own playthrough, and mistakes I'm going to make as well.

oh SHIT
|
POOR CHLOE! :( At least she still has her daddy??
CHOICES:
- left the money. As much as Chloe needs the money, doesn't really make sense to leave evidence behind like that
- kissed Chloe. WHY NOT! The way that was animated though made it look like Chloe rejected me which made me sad
- sided with Chloe. I wanted to give David the benefit of the doubt but his side really makes no sense right now
- left the dog out of harm's way. What kind of SICK FUCK would kill the dog for no reason! 4% apparently. That's gotta be the most lopsided decision yet. I wonder if Frank doesn't spot you/Chloe leaving if you kill the dog because he doesn't hear it barking? STILL WOULDN'T BE WORTH IT THO
- Chloe has the gun. This was definitely the hardest of the "big" decisions for me to make, but I figured while Frank/Chloe are both incredibly unstable, at least Chloe's on my side
I've gotten used to the forced slang dialogue, but something that's begun to annoy me more and more is how much they over-explain stuff in the dialogue. Like Max says "OH SHIT...MY EIGHTEEN YEAR OLD MIND IS STUCK IN MY THIRTEEN YEAR OLD SELF" like half a minute after it's already become obvious. I'm loving this game as a whole but the dialogue's definitely a glaring weakness compared to the rest
But ANYWAY, I loved that whole ending. I got excited when I saw this episode was called Chaos Theory just for the possibility of this sort of thing happening, but I didn't think it actually would. I'm really curious what's still gonna be intact from before, it seems like practically everything's changed. Like is Rachel still missing and Kate still dead? Nathan and Victoria weren't even acting like dicks at the end, so who knows. Or maybe it's just to show that Nathan/Victoria are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things, and the real reason for what happened to Rachel/Kate is something much bigger than them. Can't wait to see how this all pans out
Also I'm pretty impressed about how the game's handled the whole Kate death thing. Like I have no idea if it actually affected much plot-wise (I'm guessing not), but there was a ton of dialogue about her death and lots of details like shrines being put up, etc. Makes it FEEL meaningful if nothing else, and that's what's most important |

First of all decisions...
- I left the money. Similar to Boc, didn't want to leave evidence and really there just feels liek there is a better way to get Chloe out of that jam than just stealing money. Seems too easy and too risky.
- I kissed Chloe cause... why the fuck not? Also I've been a bit of a wuss as Maxine so I want to show that I have balls too. If... this decision shows me having them, idk.
- I sided with Chloe... there is no point siding with David at this point.
- I kept Frank's dog from harm... why punish the dog for having a shitty owner? Fuck.
- I... kept Chloe have David's gun? I don't remember this as a decision, honestly. Am I that terrible?
- Lisa is dead! WHAT! I guess I must have drowned her. How sad.
- I "didn't" help Warren with his exam. I don't know what this means. Good navigator, I am.
- I am on the Vortex Club Party list. I guess this is from the rewind I did at the desk.
- I didn't erase the cop's message. I actually did, but I did it after I already played it. I didn't want to rewind.
- I helped Alyssa.... I'm really curious what this is leading up to. I didn't notice it in the second episode, but so far I've helped her twice. I did not warn the homeless woman... I don't know what this is talking about.
- I didn't take a photo in the past. I couldn't figure out how! I knew I could from looking at the photo list in the journal but didn't find a camera in time to do it.
= I didn't leave a mark on the fireplace... once again, no idea what this is alluding to.
This both annoys and excites me that I missed SOOO many things. I thought I searched everything possible in this episode but I missed so damn much from my minor decisions.
I also rewound a LOT, and not to change decisions. I felt like an idiot getting David's password. Literally THE LAST FUCKING ONE I TRIED was the one that was it, meaning I rewound like 20 times to get it. Unbelievable. I also rewound so damn much in the diner cause I had no idea what the fuck to do with Frank at first. Also got caught a few times during the pool chase scene cause I suck at video games.
The ending... fuck. As soon as we rewound back to Chloe's dad being alive I was really, really, really hoping for it to be a decision so I could allow him to walk out the door and die in the same exact way. You DO NOT fuck with the past! Especially major, life altering events like that. I hated that we absolutely had to save him, but I suppose with this gigantic change that there was just no way to make an alternate path? Seeing Chloe in that wheelchair was depressing... though, I was expecting to see her dead tbh.
Just to mention since Kate did live in mine, she was not physically present in this episode but she was mentioned a lot. The boards in the dorm were filled with get well's for her and Max was seen as a hero to the whole school. Max being a hero was a big plot point of the episode. Kate also sent a text thanking Max for saving her life. |

The gun was something that you didn't necessarily have to stumble on in the episode. It was in one of the overhead storage spaces in Frank's RV, and when you spot it it gives you a choice whether to hand it to Chloe or pretend you didn't see it
as for my additional decisions:
- Lisa is dead because I drowned her :(
- Didn't help Warren with his exam. Basically when you're snooping around the school looking for pipebomb supplies, you see Warren's exam sitting on the teacher's desk (for some reason). They gave him a B- and it gives you the choice of changing it. Not sure WHY you would do this! It's not like there's an indication that the teacher's being unfair to him or anything. I guess you'd have to just REALLY like Warren that much, which I don't (: He's clingy as shit. I ignore him all the time
- Not on the party list. Wasn't this a decision from last episode?
- Erased the cop's message
- Didn't help Alyssa. I talked to her after she got splashed but it didn't really register that I could rewind to prevent it. Probably wouldn't have anyway, considering I didn't bother preventing her from getting hit by the football in a previous episode either (: DON'T LIKE HER ATTITUDE TBH!
- I didn't warn the homeless woman and have no idea what this is referring to either
- I didn't take a photo in the past, but I actually did take one originally of Chloe and her dad. I guess one of my rewinds erased it
- Didn't mark the fireplace. Have no idea what indication there was for doing this but it has me curious. Some kind of message for the future? |

About the Vortex Club thing...
Is it me or was this episode particularly cutscene driven? It seemed like there were much fewer conversation segments where we could actually pick what we were saying, Max was leading most of the conversation herself. I'm thinking this episode was more of a break to allow all the decisions to sort of catch-up and get organized. It definitely seems like a lot of your past decisions are coming back to you now. The plant finally dying if you don't take care of it, for instance. I believe the Vortex Club decision was based on numerous factors on how you treated members of the Club and even the "main" gun decision was heavily influenced by whether or not Chloe had the gun still or not. Frank didn't have the gun in my game, so I had no decision at all there.
It was still very good, regardless! This is the first episode of the series that I truly feel I HAVE to replay. I missed so damn much despite it being, as I just said, somewhat linear... but was it?
Also forgot to mention... did you ever bother to search the backyard of Chloe's house in present day? I saved the blue jay from death and found him happily chirping in the bathroom however the backyard was rather... disturbing. I'm wondering if that's some sort of consequence of saying the bird's life. |

oh yeah, I forgot that the gun's not even in Frank's possession for everyone. That's really weird that they'd make that a 'major decision' then
and yeah I do think it was more linear than the previous two. The only "walk around and talk" moment that I can think of was in the girls dorm at the beginning, and even that had less than usual since it was night. (which I didn't mention before but I really liked the nighttime aesthetic of this episode. Especially walking around the school with the lights all off)
I did check Chloe's backyard, but pretty much only because I had no idea where the FUCK the eggs were so I started getting desperate and looking everywhere. It led to one of those nice contemplative scenes (only one of the episode I think?) on the swing tho so I'm glad I did. Not sure what blue jay you're referring to though? Are you talking about those dead birds on the ground? I did open a window at one point which led to a bird getting in the house, where it happily perched up in the living room |

There was an earlier decision in the first episode where a bird smacks into a window and dies. You can choose to rewind and the bird will fly in to safety, which I did. I was wondering if all the dead birds were the cause of me dong that, perhaps cause of that split second I chose to rewind time to open a window caused every other bird's timing to be off and do the same thing. It's just.... bizarre. So I take it you had like eight dead birds on the lawn too? No idea what that's about! For some reason after I saved that bird, I thought something REALLY bad was going to happen.
There was a few contemplative scenes actually! One at the start on a bench outside the school and another while laying in bed with Chloe.
looool I had the same issue with the eggs. I was so mad when I saw it at the front door... who leaves groceries just sitting at the front door? |

- Left the money. My Max has MORALS!
- Kissed Chloe because I feel like either Max has a crush on Chloe or vice versa
- Sided with Chloe ofc
- Kept the dog from harm ofc
- Chloe kept David's gun. I also never got that decision. Disappointing since Cart says it was one of the tougher ones :(
- Lisa's been dead for ages for me
- Didn't help Warren's exam but I was never given the option. Cart you said he had a B- for you? And you could up his grade? He already had an A for me when I checked the grades....that's weird/cool. I must've done something differently from you to give him a better grade. I like that
- I don't remember the Vortex Club Party list, I don't think I'm on it
- Erased the cop's message
- Helped Alyssa again
- Took a photo in the past
- Didn't leave a mark on the fireplace but I'm so sad I missed that. I love shit like that. Leaving something in the past in time travel games/movies/shows and seeing it appear in the future
The ending was so great. When I first went to the past I figured it'd just be very sad to watch the dad walk out of the house to his inevitable death. I ASSUMED trying to stop him was completely futile, then I slowly realized it might actually be possible...and then it was (: . That was crazy. P. powerful ending. GOOD MUSIC TOO, I always listen to that song so it was cool to hear it come up. I can't wait to see what else has changed. I have a feeling this story could come down to deciding once and for all whether the father should live or die, knowing how both timelines turn out. I bet it'll be an insanely hard decision |
