Hupu I understand the show on a deeper level. I understand it on the deepest level possible. I just got very bored. It's a slow show, and it never fully embraced me. I rank Prison Break higher.
....Stringer was gonna die, I watched that episode in a much different way obviously. Wut a shame but oh well. It was a pretty clear send off episode from what I could tell. Lots of good imagery in that one too, like String and Bunny having their meeting in a graveyard
One thing I didn't expect was Clay Davis scamming Stringer. That's so hilarious. At the same time, as despicable as String was, I felt kinda bad for him in that brief moment when he realized he was out foxed, by CLAY of all people. He looked crushed and embarrassed

That quickly vaulted Clay into one of my most hated characters. He only gets worse from here really
I loved Slim's "that's some assassination shit" line when Stringer was trying to put a hit out on Clay

lol same here. I really like Slim. I wish we'd get to know him on a different level at times
I like that he has morals like the Sunday morning truce, and refusing to kill Clay. I loved Avon watching that unfold from the doorway and then stopping String from making Slim do it
season 3 is probably my favorite, but not my vote for best. While I can acknowledge the strengths other seasons may have over it, i love it for being the show's pulpiest, FUNNEST (: season. It's at a point where the show can be as EPIC as possible while still retaining the entertainment of the streets (for as tragic as they are, the TURF WARS are responsible for some very exciting moments and dynamics).
This scene, for instance, is either dissed or loved depending on the viewer. i myself love it! I think if the show didn't have moments like this it would be a lot more SELF-SERIOUS and weaker.
It's been a while (2011 in fact!) since I last watched, but I think, as with many of the subcultures explored on the show, that the politics are a lot more interesting on rewatch. The relationship between TONY and Carcetti that is so amicable publicly develops a bitter edge as the show goes on. Carcetti's ambition is such that he will burn those bridges. One moment I loved from the finale is when he is shown Hamsterdam by Bunny, and it's almost like the INVERSE of what Bubbles saw, like the possibilities of the project are grand. But by the time he can get the political bump from attacking Burrell, he takes it, and it's still a moment that kills me.
The lack of a MAJOR CASE this season, unlike 1 or 2, gives it a bit of a meandering feel, but the world of the show is so intricate and detailed that that's never a problem. Hamsterdam worked so well with the show's (and season's) THEMES of institutional reform that its preposterousness wasn't an issue with me (keep this in mind Curt (: )
Season 3 is way more COLORFUL than the show has been in the past (which is appropriate as iirc it takes place in summer), and I really liked the change in the look. It's good for Hamsterdam especially, because it contrasts the BEAUTY of Baltimore in summer with the horrific conditions of the area.
I think the montage is also one of the PINNACLES of the show. Certain moments, like Donette crying, or Breanna in the court (soon replaced by Marlo because symbolism (: ), and maybe my favorite, McNulty happy, really strengthen it. Every season finale is great for that kind of closure, but with this season (I kind of attribute it to the song), it's more EMOTIONAL somehow.
Season one ending montage is still my favorite. This one was good tho. I thought season one's was perfect
I fucking HATE Burrell. He's such a shit. When he called Bunny's potential new employer and makes sure he doesn't get the job. Ugh, I wanna see him get fired so badly
Omar didn't kill Dante at the end for ratting him out did he? I was unclear on that. I thought Mouzone was handing him his gun so he can finish the job but I wasn't really sure
Hupu how could anyone hate that scene? If they do they aren't a fan of the show. Brother Mouzoune and Omar were my favorite part of season 3. Along with Stringer of course.
And I too went in knowing that Stringer died, Curtis. Funny story actually. I was younger...never watched the wire. my parents did. Season 4 was about to premiere and I happened to walk through the living room. My mom said oh season 4 is starting tonight. And my stepdad was like yeah didnt stringer die last season?
A name like Stringer always sat with me, I never forgot it even as it took me many more years to actually watch the show. So I pretty much assumed going into season 3 that they were right. Still very powerful and sad to see him go though.
Season 4 is probably my favorite. Tough choice between 3 and 4. But you'll enjoy it nonetheless. Carry on.
I wouldn't go as far as to say I hated it, but I'm definitely not in love with that scene!
Mouzone has some good moments but overall I think he's one of the weaker characters. He's so much more unrealistic than the rest that he kinda sticks out. I get the "keeping the show from becoming too self-serious" rationale but I think the show's had better scenes/characters for that purpose than Mouzone. Like Cheese for example
