So I started watching this two weeks ago, already caught up and saw the midseason finale. Holy crap this show is badass. Slow at times but can be fast paced throughout a whole episode. Great series, I now wanna read the comics.
Do it. Despite the lack of Daryl, the comics outclass the show by a significant margin.

But yeah, I watch this show religiously.. never miss an episode... fookin love it
Having read all of them, I can pretty safely say that you probably wouldn't ruin much.

Almost every character who's died in the show has died ages before their comic counterpart did, and in some cases, those comic characters haven't died at all. Shane was literally the only exception to this. Those who haven't died before their plotlines came within a mile of the comic characters have done things way differently. Andrea is the most egregious example of this. TV Andrea is ten years older, less skilled, less intelligent, and more annoying than comic Andrea. Carl and Carol are probably the only ones who are still reasonably close to their original design, except they make far less stupid decisions and are way more likeable onscreen.
You'd possibly run the risk of spoiling the series' overall plot arc, but that's also debatable. Season two screwed up the chronology pretty badly, and a lot of the comic plot was driven by characters who've now been killed off. I could maybe see the end of season three leading the way that the comics lead from this approximate point, but I wouldn't actually see the point of it.

Yeah Darryl is easily my favourite character, I'm guessing most people think the same. Andrea, least favourite. I will give the comics a try, probably download it somewhere.
