watching this show fresh off the heels of another streaming service's faaaar superior flagship show (Stranger Things) does not help its cause! Very blah |
Before Stranger Things S4 = This is really good! Been waiting for this!
After Stranger Things S4 = This is decent. I like it.

I really don't mind Leia. I find her attitude pretty funny honestly. That said the chase scenes were very funny because she's a kid and doesn't run fast so it seems like anyone chasing her would be doing so at a quick walk at best lol. But even so this series is good. The production values seem crazy high compared to Boba (but that was Robert Rodriguez what are you expecting?)
Also yes there really needs to be another fight between Obi and Vader because... "When we last met I was but a learner now I am the master" doesn't jive with you ran like chicken shit then I dragged your ass around the desert. |

apparently Temuera Morrison in his short cameo was the only time he ever actually wore real clone armour. |

Someone I'm friends with hated the first two episodes, but absolutely loved the third one.
I guess Star Wars really need to use Darth Vader to get some of the fans interested. |

episode 4 was also yikes, the show's getting worse as it goes on honestly. I'll finish it out at this point but man what a disappointment. Nothing's really working, even Ewan didn't have much to do in this ep and he's been pretty much the only silver lining this show has had
I flipped over and watched the first ep of Ms. Marvel after and man, even if it wasn't GREAT it was at least well-directed and had competent writing. Felt like the biggest breath of fresh air compared to this

This show needed Leia gone after the first episodes. It needed a cooldown with Obi-Wan recovering or remembering Anakin, etc. It didn't need to rush forward with the plot of boring rescue Leia mission take 2. Ewan remains the thing that's working, and his use of Jedi powers is always cool, but mans. This episode felt ripe for a cooldown of flashback scenes or training or anything that wasn't this. |

Ep 4
|
Bad! Bad direction and editing. I hated every time she spoke into her communication device like right in front of everyone. And when she choked that guy out in a dead silent room with people working just a few feet away, cmon
When Obi-Wan was walking with Leia in his robe lol. Gimme a break. You can't think of ANYTHING else!
Also MAYA from pen15 showed up! That was a fun surprise, I forgot she was cast
Poor Wade, really well fleshed out character and I felt his death, the show won't be the same without him. RIP to a real one
Underwater base looked cool, I'll give them that. Production design looks good, way better than Boba. Guess it's hard to fuck up an Imperial base at this point though

how did they manage to make Vader look so bad in this lol. He looks like he's wearing a cheap Halloween suit. The production value in general is embarrassing at times for what's supposed to be Disney's "#1 show"
|
oh look another character stabbed in the gut that's gonna survive! tbf the little fight beforehand where Vader's just toying with Reva was probably the only thing I liked about this ep, that was kinda fun
Other than that...! OOF. Again
How were Reva and Obi-Wan whispering to each other through a BLAST DOOR
Why were Reva and Obi-Wan casually discussing treason in front of an entire phalanx of stormtroopers
Why the hell would Vader leave Reva alive after she straight-up tried to kill him? He's choked people out for way less
Why do they insist on using shakycam so much
Why did Bail spell out where Luke is hiding, down to the detail, on an interceptable phonecall
Indira Varma's character death actually made me lol. They paused on that moment for SO long with such dramatic music acting like it was some huge beloved character we're losing |
I think I can safely say I no longer trust any Disney Star Wars unless it includes Baby Yoda

I don't know what's wrong with me. I felt very little this episode for any of the emotional moments beyond the flashback scenes with Anakin and the stuff Vader was up to. I feel like a curmudgeon watching Leia go and become an 8 year old engineer, Reva inexplicably putting Obi-Wan with two guards instead of keeping him right there in front of her until Vader came. The death scene from that one character. The dialogue we got from her with Obi-Wan earlier in the episode felt so uncomfortable and off.
The stuff I didn't like, I really didn't like. But the stuff I liked was great to see. Heaps better than the last episode, at the very least.
Imagine if Leia had been returned to safety after episode 3. If this episode had been episode 4 instead of episode 5, with parts of this being in an episode 5, etc. More flashbacks, more Anakin/Vader stuff. That seems like a better show. It REALLY feels bogged down in trying to do justice to Reva's story, to Leia's story, to that character who died this episode's story. When the whole selling point was Obi-Wan and his story. You could've slowed things down even more with added character beats if you yeeted the rescue Leia take 2 that was episode 4.
It's a show with so much promise. Whatevers. It is what it is. I loved the flashback scene. Wish there were more. We're through 5 episodes and no Qui-Gon Jinn. Like. Wow. Throw him in episode 6 to backload everything. I liked the confrontation between Vader and Reva, but it was done so poorly from her character's standpoint.
What was the direction trying to tell us? Did Reva get bamboozled by Obi-Wan? Did he lie to her? Or was she expecting to sneak up and stab Vader while he looked off into the sky? Surely not. Surely she was expecting a fight between Obi-Wan and Vader where she could've came in and cleaned up... right? And if so, why let Obi-Wan out of your sight.
And when she gets stabbed and they let her live...
At least the Grand Inquisitor return was fun. |

I don't understand who's watching these episodes and giving them a green light.
|
The firefight was terminally bad, they were literally meters away from each other shooting for what, 2 minutes or something and barely hitting anything with nobody trying to take cover or anything.
The stormtroopers literally walked past whatshername instead of finishing her off to walk into lightsabre range of Obi-Wan (:
The part where Vader grabbed the shuttle and ripped it apart was cool, until he looked through its window to see a new shuttle appear out of thin air like it was a level of Gorogoa, and he just let it fly away?
What about the star destroyer in orbit?
I don't understand how Leia recognized her robot because of the red eyes.

Feel like the whole series might make a decent fan-edited episode.

The early scenes with Obi-Wan having faux conflict with Ice Cube's son and Leia were not it.
HOLY the Reva stuff was unnecessary. Every time they cut back to it during what was an epic battle between Vader and Obi-Wan, they had to know it couldn't stand up with that...
Everything about the confrontation with Anakin was epic. Loved that they got to talk a bit more. The sound work! One of the best scenes in the whole show. Not sure I like the implication of Obi-Wan leaving him alive to go be evil or Obi-Wan leaving the planet and the massive ship not shooting him out of the sky, but it is what it is.
Travel speed, teehee.
They really thought they had something with the Reva character, didn't they?
I keep feeling like the only things working in this are Obi-Wan and Darth Vader. But I did love the final scene between Leia and Obi-Wan.
The confrontation between Vader and Obi-Wan gave this show reason to be. It's worth it just for that. Amazing stuff. But still, what a disappointment of a series. Cut Leia out after the 2nd or 3rd episode. Do something else with Reva, or not even have the Inquisitors in this, and add in far more flashbacks between Anakin and Obi-Wan. Really, a failure on the part of the creators here not to see how their focus was all over the place. Focusing so much on Leia and Reva in this show just feels like a massive mistake.

you took the words right outta mouth, agree with all of that. Def the best episode of the series just for that scene
|
this week's continuity annoyance: Luke getting chased by an Imperial wielding a lightsaber. So dumb. The best part about Luke's story arc is he starts as a nobody who hasn't seen ANYTHING and has lived an incredibly boring life, which makes the epic journey he goes on that much more impactful
Reva's character arc was sloppy af, even if they wrote a good character it still wouldn't have been worth it to draw so much time away from the Obi/Anakin conflict
Which surprise surprise, was by FAR the best part of this episode, and the series. That sequence was arguably worth sitting through the rest of the show for. The bit with half-masked Vader and the audio cutting between Hayden/JEJ's voices was great |

Yes, yes, yes, and yes! The creative minds behind the show must've known how impactful and incredible that scene was going to be. Which makes their decision to focus elsewhere for as much of the show as they did so damning.
HOW was there not more Anakin/Obi-Wan flashbacks throughout the show?!?! Why make the fourth episode what it was?!?! |
