Very good episode. Straight for the gut bunch. Ellie reading the letter and getting to Tess was brutal.
Honestly the Ellie part of the episode was great, she’s really growing on me. Her seeing the car was a lot of fun.
I kind of forgot the actual story and I like the change. If they make everyone sad portion of the game a “happy” spin it could get old but this one was great. |

eh! Solid ep though probably the weakest yet. Joel and Ellie relationship building was pretty good, every scene with the Kansas City crew was kinda whatever. I feel like they were trying to flesh them out into more than "bad guys shooting at the protagonists" but can't say I care about any of them. It was cool seeing Tommy's VA show up though, he was the long-haired bearded guy. Sure looked the part!
You can definitely tell they had fun writing up that truck fight scene lol, some ambient lines ripped straight from the game and ofc all the popping up from cover. Joel killing that kid at the end was suitably brutal
What do we think that lil earthquake was all about? I assume it's gonna be a bloater, but I could also see it being some new weird monstrosity they're introducing. Like the nexus of the local tendril network or something |

agreed with basically all of this. loved how similar the ambush scene was tho i was REALLY hoping Joel would say "oh he aint even hurt"
i didn't think it was a quake i just thought it was infected pushing their way up but that is unlikely now that i think abt it.
the sequence with "henry" and "sam" was great from what i recall, HUGE action sequence upcoming which im excited for
ellie's "diarrheic is hereditary" joke cracked me up. great scene |

okay… I’m not going to be as great as describing because I haven’t played the video game.. but anyway. My daughter told me I would like this and after episode 1 I was like… why do you think I would like this? Episode 2 was a little better… but then episode 3.. amazing!! Omg Bill <3 I loved him! Great episode and should be watched with a really good glass of wine. Episode 4 was good, it’s obvious the relationship between Joel and Ellie was going to progress… but also the added bonus of Melanie Lynskey, who I love.
I reminded my daughter that she loved the Massachusetts State House when we visited in 2019 and that was the place where Ellie Tess blew herself and the infected up so that was nostalgic lol…
I keep seeing “clicker” mentioned.. is that what they call the infected ? I do like the fact that the infected can’t see. Good concept.
Anyway good series so far.

the clicker is basically a stage 2 zombie in this universe, they were the ones in episode 2 that couldn't see and had to "click" (use echolocation) to find people. They're much harder to kill than regular zombies since all the fungus growing on them acts like armor
stage 1 zombies are like the grandma in episode 1, they look more like regular people and still have use of their eyes
then there's stage 3 zombies which...you might be seeing real soon |

Oooh thank you! I had no idea. I remember wondering if the grandma couldn't see because I thought she could. I'll fill in my daughter, too lol. |

Ugh I knew it was coming but that was rough. Hit me harder than Bill and Frank by tenfold. I forgot Henry was the one to shoot Sam. Man it was like perfectly done. Sam and Ellie’s relationship over the episode was great, just allowing them to be kids again.
Kathleen was kind of menacing in a unique way I do kind of wish we got more of a stand off before the infected came. The infected part was cool though. The girl doing cartwheels in the car was so creepy and then bloater just ripping Perry’s head off, that was freaking awesome. Humans have no chance in that situation.
In terms of game spoilers I feel like I don’t remember anything else until the end, so im probably going to be surprised for the next 2-3 before the last chapter.
I think Bella is doing an amazing job as Ellie and Pedro is killing it as well. |

I haven't played the game, but I'm loving this show. I want to play the game, but I'm actually glad I'm seeing the show first
Episode 5 has been my favorite so far. Lamar Johnson and Keivonn Montreal Woodard were incredible. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |

I think my favorite part of the episode was how visibly we could see the unspoken trust between Ellie and Joel. That scene when he is spotting her from above as she runs away from the Clickers, and Joel is deadset on keeping Ellie alive, more so than just running away to get to his brother when he had the option. So, so well done.
Of course I was hoping Henry would still continue on with them, but I don't know how he ever would have bounced back from that. He probably would have felt like there was no point in living when he sacrificed everything for his brother and then his first violent act was shooting him. I think this is the only was the only option for Henry. |

p good ep, think I'd slot it just below ep 2 & 3
|
I'm mostly in the same boat as you Dyl, everything from the first game was so long ago that I only have STRONG memories of the beginning and the ending with just a few moments scattered in-between. I knew there was something sad with Henry & Sam but honestly didn't remember what it was til just before it went down
Definitely the strongest part of the ep. Lamar Johnson's line reading of "What did I do?!" was heartbreaking. They both did a great job, lot of impact in little time
on the flip side, now that it's over I think the "villain" side of the KC plot was a flop. I didn't care for Melanie Lynskey's character at all, and it was even worse in this ep when they pulled out one of the lamest tropes of the "ruthless killer" suddenly being trigger-shy when she has her Moby Dick in her sights. She did it TWICE! The first time was especially egregious, she fully turned her head away from her target and stopped to stare at the truck for like a full 10 seconds. Good thing he didn't have a hidden weapon on him! |
