Some people love this show, and others are incredibly bored by it. There's no middle | --------------------

I'm in the middle! (: I feel similarly towards it as I do towards 90% of the MCU, and that's that it's perfectly FINE, doesn't move the needle much either way but is okay enough to keep watching
Ep 8 was for sure one of the better eps tho. I think the sitcom format became a crutch as the show went on so it benefitted from breaking from that

I started out disliking it for the first few episodes, then I started to like it for a bit, and now I dislike it again after Ep 7. I mean, it's not BAD, but definitely just not a show I'd personally be watching if it wasn't going to obviously tie strongly into the upcoming MCU movies. The premise was interesting, but the execution (songs, weak dialogue, bad sitcom jokes for entire episodes, etc) just isn't my thing. I guess I can see how others would find a lot of that fun instead of awful and extremely cringey, but I'm fairly surprised at how many people lean more toward the former than the latter! At the same time, I did dislike a lot of beloved ~fun~ Netflix shows, as well, so /shrug business as usual
Regardless, still like that they're taking weird swings with their shows even if this one missed for me. With 9016 other MCU shows in production, it's nice to know all of them won't feel exactly the same as each other lol

Supposedly there are TWO more episodes instead of one but we will see come Friday. The show is scheduled to finish March 5th so my guess is a two ep finale.

I know this show wasn't for everyone, but I loved it. Here is my review of it.
|
8/10
Honestly I really loved this show.
I enjoy marvel movies in general, but I do find they can feel very formulaic. I really appreciate the risk they took with this show. It felt different from anything that I had ever watched before, but I felt that it was pretty well done. IMO They did a great job with everything that occurred inside the Hex. I loved seeing how the show evolved through the different eras of television and I thought they nailed the way the different decades portrayed comedy. They also did a good job at progressing the creepiness through the first few episodes.
The parts outside of the Hex I wasn't nearly as into. The scenes with Jimmy Woo, Darcy, Monica, and that generic government asshat guy felt like it took you out of the episode. I would have appreciated if they paused the 'outside the hex' reveal until all the themed episodes were done. This is nothing to say about their performances (I think Jimmy and Darcy were great in their roles), but it just made the episodes feel disjointed. Also the storyline just wasn't nearly as compelling.
One thing that I loved about the show is that Wanda was kinda the true villain. Sure, Agatha was there to be the antagonist to Wanda, but what Wanda did was truly fucked up way worse than anything Agatha did. These people had to actively watch themselves say and do things that they had no control over, while watching their loved ones suffer the same fate. That's psychological torture. One of my biggest fears is being comatose but aware in a hospital bed without any ability to control my body, and this seems so much worse than that? Like Dottie had to know that her child was not being cared for and watch herself not do anything about it.
But on the other hand, they didn't really acknowledge that fact and IMO it made the ending kinda cheap. Wanda, after inflicting psychological torture on these people, walks through a crowd of them wihtout apologizing. Then she talks to Monica, who she inflicted the least amount of torture on, and apologizes, and Monica is like... it's ok I totally understands and confirms to Wanda that she shouldn't apologize?
I can understand why a lot of people didn't like it. It's targeted at a more niche audience than their blockbuster hits are targeting. And it definitely had some flaws. But I appreciate that they took a risk.
In terms of individual performances, for me, the star of the show was always Kathryn Hahn. She is just so damn funny, and she nailed the acting of every era perfectly. I felt she aced her scenes so well through the entire thing and I'm thrilled that they didn't kill her off. I don't think she was lying about the fact that Wanda would need her because Wanda absorbed her magic which was referred to as 'magic of the damned' or something? So I'm hoping she becomes a recurring villain like Loki. Also, her fate was horrible so I can't imagine she'll remain that way forever.
Paul Bettany was also incredible. I felt such a strong connection with his character by the end of the show and he's among my top 3 favs in the MCU at this point. I loved that he was able to connect with his original self and achieved a solution through peaceful measures, because he's so compassionate. I also think he nailed the comedic moments he was given through the series. I barely knew who Paul Bettany was as an actor before watching this show but I am now a fan - IMO this show really showed off his range.

Man, I'm really sad it's over. I LOVED this show! I was never a huge Marvel fan or know all of the lore and comics and shit, but I adore Scarlet Witch and this was just a great time for me.
The S.W.O.R.D. stuff was not it for me, tho. The writing wasn't really as strong as the main plot and kinda felt like the red herring antagonist. Seriously, the security at S.W.O.R.D. is abysmal. The Skrull cameo at post-credit scene 1 was cool tho.
Evan Peters just being a boner joke was hilarious, not even mad.
The idea of two Visions talking about a boat while Agatha was kicking Wanda's ass is hilarious to me. I'm glad she kept Agatha alive at the end and I feel her story isn't completely over yet. I hope Agatha eventually becomes a kind of mentor or guide to Wanda.
The last few lines between Wanda and Vision broke my heart, I love them so much. Hyped for Multiverse tho. |

the finale was one of the weakest eps for me but what can ya do (:
|
agree with Badger's point about them not acknowledging what Wanda did nearly enough. It seemed like they were going that direction with what Agatha was saying (and what the civilians themselves were saying) but then...they kinda just shrugged it off after that. Making her a true anti-hero (anti-villain?) would've been a cool direction but it seems like they chickened out at the last second
Darcy's single line this ep was definitely a low point for the MCU |
I appreciate the 'risk' they took but I feel like they didn't execute on it nearly as well as they could've and fell back into the Marvel formula by the end anyway. eh!
might be done with the Marvel shows tbh, I can't think of one that sounded as intriguing as this did

This might have been one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I’d rank it somewhere alongside Revolution and Z Nation

It’s the most expensive show of all time if that answers your q Shad. I think it’s just supposed to be a single season |
|
Yeah and the crazy part is that it isn't even close.
To put it in perspective, The Crown is the second most expensive show on television to make (I think mainly because it is shot in castles). It cost 130 million for a 10 episode season.
Wandavision cost 200 million for 9 episodes. It's nuts. |
Crazy how this is already outdated with the LOTR series absolutely stomping this number. By miiiiles
I’m begrudgingly continuing this for completions sake. Onto ep 4

Ep 4 is brutal so far. Kat Dennings is fucking bruuuuutal. How did a room full of people decide it was a good idea to bring this character back. Her voice makes me cringe so bad
