I think scum was probably desperate for a conf town. Also, they figured if he protected Timmah, then Mal would be under serious scrutiny as well, and they'd essentially be 5 down.

Here's some more ammunition as to killing Stargate.

No one who has flipped mafia has had an extra life yet, right? I assumed Rose did, but I guess she was protected, because rereading her role... no extra life. No idea how she survived, I guess Timmah protected her.

So SOMEONE on Mafia should have an extra life, yes? And I doubt Star's only role is one-shot kill. He probably controls Hollywood every day, and can survive an attack too. Maybe multiple attacks, we won't know at this point.
