Those parts were good yes, especially run, but Gus killing his henchman was an obvious decision for dramatics. It made NO SENSE!! |
There's three common ideas about this
1. Gus killed him because he was scene at Gale's murder scene by someone as we saw. Gus knew he was a liability because he could be identified and connected to Gus
2. Gus killed him because he failed to protect Gale
3. Gus killed him because he "flew too close to the sun" and started cooking that batch on his own to prove a point when it was not his place to
All three work but #1 makes perfect sense to me | |

This young man from the internet explains it from another angle
|
When Gus walks into that room, knowing that GB has been murdered, he has a few options.
- Kill Walt. Bad idea. Walt is Gus' prized cook, and if Walt goes down, so does Gus' empire. Even though he may despise Walt, Gus' business acumen rules this out.
- Kill Jesse. Also not the best idea. If Jesse gets whacked, Gus knows that Walt is likely out, or at the very least, becomes a greater liability.
- Kill Victor. Now this one makes a lot of sense from Gus' perspective, for a few reasons. First, it's a horrifying and gruesome intimidation tactic. For me this is still the most shockingly violent scene of the entire series. Second, killing Victor removes him as a possible link to GB's murder, though as mentioned above, Gus' knowledge of that at this point is conjecture. Third (and this is my favorite), in killing Victor, Gus quite literally corners Walt and Jesse, imprisons them, forces them to be his only cooks. He removes the only other person (Victor) who purports to know Walt's formula. He says to them, in no uncertain terms, 'so long as you are alive, you will cook for me.'
This is one my favorite scenes from the series, I was totally shocked and horrified when it happened, and only after the fact did I acknowledge its brilliance. |
