I'm currently going through Dead Rising, L.A. Noire, Alan Wake, GTA IV, and Red Dead Redemption at the same time.
Dead Rising is proving to be the most irritating. I can't figure out how to give weapons to my followers, so I wind up carving my way through massive hordes with a piece of plywood, only to turn around and find out that they're busily getting their faces chewed off. The only one I've found who's got enough common sense to carry a weapon keeps trying to attack me with it. I successfully got him to stop being a dick once, but then I died and lost him, and every time I've tried to recruit him since, he's come at me with a baseball bat.
L.A. Noire is interesting. I've always wanted to play a video game that showcases my staggering inability to perceive facial expressions, and also lectures me every time I try to drive my vehicle irresponsibly. Still, the cases are engaging, and I'm actually kind of enjoying it - even if I do get seriously sick of not being able to actually fight people 90% of the time.
Red Dead Redemption is also pretty good. I've racked up a ridiculous amount of bounty on my head ever since I got the lasso and started collecting hogtied victims in my hotel room just to see how many I could fit. Apparently that's a pretty substantial crime, but given that everybody else is getting murdered and rustled every ten seconds, I feel like I'm being unfairly singled out.
GTA IV, for some reason, isn't as awesome as I thought it would be. Admittedly, I've only gotten past the first couple of missions, but for some reason I don't have nearly as much fun driving around and plowing recklessly through the streets just for the heck of it. The cars have a MUCH wider turning radius than they did in GTA III, and as a result it's a lot less chaotic, and a lot more like trying to steer a sailboat. Plus the cops apparently don't give much of a crap nowadays. I routinely blow past them while dodging oncoming traffic and mow over pedestrians, and I have yet to ever see them get annoyed with me.
Alan Wake is still pretty good. I generally play it when Robette is watching, because it's a heck of a lot safer than the other choices, but that means that I can't play it on my own, so I'm stuck in the Well-Lit Room and haven't moved beyond there. |

lmao, that's pretty much exactly how I passed time in RDR. I had way too much fun with that damn lasso. I personally liked lining up as many people as I could on the train tracks. |

Wait what
You... you can lasso people up and tie them to the train tracks in RDR? Is that what you're saying?
I'm going to obtain this game immediately if so. | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

Got The Last of Us recently and its pretty good. Only played an hour or so too.
And Henry in case you were concerned, Naughty Dog has made the cast pretty diverse so you won't have to worry about racism when/if you get it.

Well you can't lasso them to the train tracks, but you can just put their bodies across them which is pretty much the same thing anyway. It's satisfying too cause when the train comes, their bodies splatter and disappear. I'm easily amused.
Mindless shit like that is why I always take forever to beat free roam games. Everytime I load up GTA, I spend 90% of the time pushing people down stairs, throwing coffee cups at people reading on benches and knocking people off the subway bay when a train is coming. Skyrim, Unrelenting Force errywhere. Yesterday I spent like 30 minutes trying to make Viarmo fly out the window while he was doing the Burning of King Olaf speech. |

The hours I have spent slingshotting cops from rooftops in Bully is a testament to how much fun random pointless acts are in games.
Definitely getting RDR now.

yeah RDR has lots of random things you can do. I always got sidetracked realizing at times I was on the other side of the map when I needed to get back to the mission at hand.

My favorite thing to do in RDR was to ride my horse at full speed along the side of a cliff and then take out my shotgun and shoot the back of the horses head and then the horse and I go tumbling off the side of the cliff.

Any game that has RAGDOLL animations is awesome. I used to play Just Cause 2 for hours. Running around the open world, skipping the missions just to free fall from my helicopter onto a mountain and then tumble down it

I love spamming Unrelenting Force in Skyrim. I still get a smug feeling of self-satisfaction when a guard runs up and asks me to stop shouting, I apologise, and then shout in his face.

By far the best I can remember though is when I mastered pickpocket and got the Perfect Touch perk that allows you to steal equipped armour (along with the one for stealing equipped weapons). I'd spend a great deal of time running around every guard in town, stealing all of their armour and weapons and dumping them somewhere unreachable.
Then I'd start a killing spree with only a plethora of unarmed guards to stand in my way and watch happily as the citizens walked around, shaking their heads at my handywork.
I've never gotten past the fifth or sixth quest on the main storyline.
