So, sounds like its probably bad news, but there's an extra round of wait-and-see before it's 100% certain. Not looking too good though | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

I am so sorry to hear this. I'm sure the extra waiting is painful. Hang in there and we'll keep thinking about you and your whole family during this!

So, basically the doctors were giving it a bit more time to see if he was braindead or not, but it wasn't looking great. The tests were all showing minimal brain activity but no obvious signs of damage. Yesterday was the cutoff, so since there were no signs of recovery, they declared that he probably wouldn't recover, and that his brain probably hadn't been properly oxygenated in the time that he was passed out before he was found.
I was expecting that to be what they said but I still felt uneasy about it. The fact that the doctors waited for so long and didn't seem sure and let it linger was really sticking out to me as a worry. He'd opened his eyes a few times and seemed to look at people in the room, and he'd been moving around a lot, but those can also be reflexes or not purposeful. He was reacting to pain, but that's a reflex that doesn't necessarily involve the brain. So, it seemed like the good sign were wrong and I decided to just mentally deal with it later because I wasn't in the mood to process anything last night. We were making plans to take him off the respirator this week and my aunt was going to start getting in touch with funeral homes.
But then this morning just a few minutes ago my aunt called. He's awake and talking. So, I'm both incredibly relieved and horrified that he got declared braindead in the first place. We were getting really close to making a bad call | d ( i n o s r o a ) r

Katy’s grandma is around 97/98 is living in a home, but her uncle didn’t pay for the assisted living care portion of it even though she’s got money to pay for it, fell and broke her hip on Thursday. No one checked on her for 3 days and was found on the floor. She’s now in the hospital with kidney failure and they are putting her in hospice today. So sad. |

@rose - that is great news that your uncle is awake now! I hope that he continues to improve.
@ahoda - sorry to hear about Katy’s grandmother. That is very concerning that she wasn’t checked on for 3 days even though she was living in a home. Assisted care or not, they should be checking on people at least once a day I’d hope! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
@KC I will be sending thoughts and prayers that it is not cancer and that his doctors will get him on a great treatment plan quickly.

I wasn’t really sure where to write this.
One of my best friends died my junior year of high school, and after 11 years I finally mustered up the strength to visit her grave today. I’m not sure how to feel, except I know I feel terrible it took this long. And I’m not sure why now and why this trip. | "All this from a slice of gabagool?" |
