I liked how that last scene took place in the original Tyrell boardroom

BOY I hope it's not Tyrell. I don't think there's any way that could make sense anyway. My money's on it being...us...somehow? Or maybe when he was breaking the 4th wall he actually WASN'T breaking the 4th wall that whole time and was talking to this mystery 3rd persona?? AHHHHHHHH
I thought the ending scene was pretty clunky tbh and kinda unneeded since that was already revealed in the previous scene. Speaking of which I was totally expecting that Elliot/Mr Robot scene to end with them both looking at the camera (:

Really liked the exposition scene too, Pruit Igoe + Price's voice was perfect for that
Also I get unreasonably GIDDY whenever Vera's name is brought up, I'm still so curious how he fits into all this. I liked that that was basically Elliot's response when it was brought up too

ep 3 was good as usual. I really wish I could binge this whole season but at the same time I'm glad I CAN'T cuz it's nice that I'm forced to savor it this way
THOTS:
- I was totally ready for this to be a 100% White Rose flashback, would not have minded that at all. But what we got was good, and it's prob for the best to leave some air of mystery around White Rose still anyway
- did not expect Vera to pop back up just like that, I thought his confrontation with Elliot down the line would be the first time we'd see him again. That scene really made me think Vera's ultimate PURPOSE is gonna be inadvertently getting between White Rose and Elliot and screwing her plans up cuz it's the one variable she didn't account for. It's GOTTA be something like that
- idk if it's the sound mixing or just the song selection but there's SOMETHIN about the way Esmail does bar scenes that I really like. Under the Tide from last year (with Darlene/Dom) and the music here added so much to both. Turns out they both ended VRY similarly too! (: At least Elliot didn't get caught like his sis did. I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop there, it's gonna be so sad
- That shot of Elliot/Olivia in the bathroom was gorgeous
- How is Tyrell that dumb, c'mon man did you not notice the BUSTED DOOR HINGE
- FUN FACT the episode titles this year have been named for the corresponding 4xx error codes (4x01 was 401 Unauthorized etc) which SO FAR have been loosely tied into each episode. Error 410 is "Gone" which would be a perfect finale title but since there's 13 episodes this season, it'll be 413 "Payload Too Large" which...not sure how that'll tie in unless it has something to do with the Congo project

Just watched ep 3 finally, great stuff
Tyrell would've been the one who broke Elliot's door in Boc. That's how he got in
100% agreed about the bar music, I was thinking the same thing. I gotta look that song up now. There was a similarly great sounding song last week at some point too. They're always so hypnotic and drowned out. Speaking of that vibe, Elliot mentioning the kid and The Martian makes me REALLY wanna rewatch that amazing s3 episode now. That's one of my favorite episodes of any show lately. The shot of Elliot and Olivia in this ep kinda reminded me of the shot of Elliot and Angela in that ep too
Esmail is so good | |

I'm so bummed :( . That's definitely it for Tyrell and I'm left..mostly disappointed tbh. This show neverrrrrr disappoints me but overall I'm not thrilled with the handling of Tyrell throughout the last couple of seasons. He was SO great in his early appearances. Then his disappearance made him even more of an enigma, but ever since returning (short of that good cabin episode) I'm not sure I love what they've done with him since they...really haven't done much
Maybe when I rewatch the whole series without the gaps in between seasons I'll appreciate his trajectory more but this episode just felt like they ran out of gas with him and had nothing to really do with him anymore which is super disappointing since he's a great character. Also, for an episode all about Elliot and Tyrell's relationship I kinda wanted them to dig a lot deeper. I dunno if this ep really changed how I think each character viewed the other. I wanted MOOOOOOOOORE
Overall I did really like the vibe of the ep. Reminded me of that amazing snowy woods Fargo s3 episode. I'm just sad :((( |

ofc he could still be alive or the blue light thing could be important but I kinda don't think so. I get the impression that this was it for him but maybe they'll be sneaky |

lol what was that. I don't think I liked that episode much at all. Something felt really off about all of it, like the cinematography was still on point (some of those shots of them in the misty woods were STUNNING) but the writing especially felt uncharacteristically sloppy
Agreed about Tyrell, I don't think they've done a good job with him since S1 (when he was easily one of the most compelling characters of the show, if not THE most)
The Dom plot felt like a pretty drawn out way to tell us what we already know, she's paranoid af and has lost all control of her life
Really my only takeaway from this episode was the ending, otherwise I feel like it was almost a throwaway. It was character-centered, which is fine (the Eliot/Martian episode last year is a great example of that) but I don't think any character moved forward in a meaningful way. I am intrigued about wtf that blue light was tho, like I thought it was just an ambulance or something but between the music and the fade to WHITE it seems to be implied that it's something big? Can't imagine what it could be tho

Yeahhhh felt like a rare misfire to me too which is surprising. They usually kill eps like that

hell yawwwwwwww, that was a return to form
Great gimmick episode, intense heist, signature humor. It was great. I love their high concept episodes, the "We don't have to talk." "We should finally talk." bookend lines were perfect. VERAAAAAAA!
Tyrell is def really dead :(

405 Method Not Allowed, p easy to see how they tied that one in (:
Liked it a lot better than last week's, that's for sure. tbh the no dialogue felt gimmicky/forced at times, when that's something I never felt with something like the one-shot episode. I feel like a few more lines of dialogue would've made for a better episode even if it would've lost the cool factor
Was still good though, the foot chase through NY was insane. Elliot got to pull off his signature move at the end!
I really love the use of juxtaposed Christmas music in anything and this season's had it in SPADES. Ave Maria playing over Elliot stumbling across the ice rink was probably my fav
