I let Mr. C choose a movie to watch while we were at the Provo Mall and he chose this. I was speechless.

I wanted to see it anyway but wasn't planning on with him as I figured he'd hate it and heckle it the whole time. Surprisingly he thought it was fine and the only comment he blurted out was at the end where he pointed out....

...right when that exact plot point was revealed in everyone's faces.

I thought it was pretty good. Didn't go in with super high expectations and while I grew up with Red/Blue/Yellow, I kind of fell off the Pokemon train after the hype of Gold and Silver died out and never got into the Pokemon Go craze, so I wasn't really worried about the film vs. franchise bullshit. I took as it was and for that, it was good. I probably won't go out of my way to watch it again but if Pokemon does turn into some sort of film franchise, I would definitely watch a sequel.

Saw it over the weekend. The movie was pretty damn solid, and it having nothing to do with the mainline games was a very large reason why (imo, a movie based on a mainline game would have impossible expectations to meet). It let this story speak for itself, even if it is a very simple story whose twists are pretty obvious, though

Not sure if I'd want a sequel to this
BIG ASS SPOILER #2+
but as a standalone film, it was solid. If you've ever cared about the Pokemon franchise, you'll enjoy this movie.

Sounds like a sequel is already in the works. I think there is a lot they can do with the Pokemon universe, not necessarily needing to follow Tim Goodman. I'd love a series of different movies in the same world. Hell I'd say I'm for a Nintendo cinematic series of films tbh, this movie proved it can take a very popular game, spin it into a unique story and still remain faithful to the fanbase.

(Yes I realize detective pikachu is a game but who the fuck thinks of that when thinking of Pokemon?)

Diamond and Pearl was pretty great too

those were the worst ones I couldn’t even finish the game. Gold & Silver we’re easily the best but ORAS from the new stuff is soo good

Crystal was the best

I had so many issues with this movie. You guys are crazy.

It was so fucking lazy. Most of the Pokémon used made up squeaking voices instead of their usual voice. For example, Bulbasoar did little squeaks instead of the usual “bulba bulba-soar”

Also. It was even lazier because there were only like 25 Pokémon in the whole movie. They just used he same ones over and over and over and over again. Hey remember those monkeys from earlier in the movie? Well they’re back and we’ve put them in every other scene of the movie in the background

Not the best movie

It could have been so much better if they focused on a Pokemon journey. The plot itself sucked. I was so checked out during the Pokemon float scene. Also it needed more Jigglypuff.

Nostalgia factor had me loving it at the start and spotting all the Pokemon

Oh this film also suffered from putting every joke into the trailer. All the funny bits were spoiled. Mr. Mime was easily the best scene

Jigglypuff should’ve had someone eat its ballsack on the dance floor like our favorite Snapchat video
