Way too dark. It was just pure misery porn and I thought the script and plot was weak. Todd Phillips should stick to comedies.
But to be more mixed, the performances in it were phenomenal. Joaquin was at his best. The cinematography and style was ACE. Near perfection. They had SO MANY parts right but the parts that really should have brought it together (the editing, the pacing, and the script) were abysmal and dragged it down.
it was a fucking miserable and depressing movie. I hated it.
1 1/2 stars because I did like the ending. |

I really enjoyed it! It wasn’t my favorite movie of all time but I thought Phoenix did really well.

I will admit while I understood the twist with the girl when she told him he’s not supposed to be here, the original twist flew straight over my head. I kept thinking why is she with him.
I agree the scene at the end with the smile would have been a great way to end it but the Arkham scene was good to.
Good standalone. Hoping they aren’t going to force him into the new Batman film. It would be interesting to see him evolve but it would be tough because he didn’t feel like a villain 100%. Like idk how believable it would be for him to hatch Joker level plots or not. |

Sequel announced with Phillips and Phoenix returning allegedly
Eh!
Not surprising since its made a shit load of money but I pictured it as a stand-alone. I can only visualize Arthur as the early stage Joker while he’s breaking bad instead of at the top of his game | |
