The first jump scare I ever remember as a kid was watching Jaws for the first time when they are inspecting the hull of Gardeners boat and his head rolls into the opening of the hull. I think I shart myself that day.
Me too! I remember my knees physically buckling during that scene when that head rolled out.
Also The Amityville Horror gave me night frights for a long time, esp if I happened to be awake and looked at my alarm clock and it said 3:15.

When I was in my 20s there was his movie where a guy was chained in a cell and he started eating his hand off to get free. Idk what it was called but it made me pass out
The first horror movie I ever watched was Friday Part V with the kid from Diff'rent Strokes. I was like 4 I think. I use to sleep on the couch in the livingroom back then so I naturally watched TV when I couldn't sleep when my parents were sleeping and even though I was scared of horror movies, I was deeply enamored by that little black boy and wanted to make sure he lived. I was deeply disturbed over his grandfather being thrown out a window with his eyes gouged out.
Anyway I pretty much refused to watch any horror movie until my late teens after that, something I bonded with Shadow over <3 And at this point in my life, I'm not particularly scared of movies.

tbh if I'm thinking of what kept me up at night the most as a young kid it was......MOUSE HUNT. The painting on the wall that kept changing its expression scared the shit out of me for some reason: https://youtu.be/I0YUjv1u-Gw?t=1m51s
If I'm thinking irrespective of age then it's probably...The Ring?
I'm really trying to think of other horror stuff that scares me, but the only thing really standing out is an episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark, but I can't even remember which episode it was. I think it involved a kid being trapped and cursed or something and there was no real resolution so there was a lingering "and they were never saved and trapped forever" sort of thing.
Don't like that lack of resolution. Kill them or save them and I'm cool with it, but a lingering conflict sticks with me
I think horror doesn't bother me too much because my family are all big true crime fans and I used to watch America's Most Wanted and Unsolved Mysteries ever since I was a toddler.

I hated the jump scare in the Ring where the mother is talking about finding her daughter in the closet and then you see her face all morphed. GIVES ME CHILLS!
This was the first thing I thought of! Saw the ring pretty young and couldn't go to sleep without my closet door totally shut (it was visible from my bed) for at least a week.
