I just thought of something else I regretted doing: spending as much money as I did on GLB. What a waste.

I don't view it as a waste. The money I spent there gave me you guys and 10 years later here we are.

Aren't you a sweetie?

I admit, I'm an emotional person.

Hell Dadd, I sent you my Season 1 DVD set of Glee. And you sent it back. True <3 right there.

Life isn't precisely where I want it to be, but I can't really complain. I have a good job, wife has a good job, we have money to spend. No children yet, so maybe that's a regret as I get older.

I live in my hometown, and there are times I wish I'd left and dropped some roots somewhere else, but then who knows where I'd be now, so not really a regret.

I did tons of stupid things as a kid/teenager/college kid that I regret, but those are mostly small stuff that helped me learn what to do and not to do, so I can't say I regret much of that.

Oh, we did jump into our home purchase a little faster than we should have. It's our first home to own, so we had no idea what we were doing and we were in a hurry. Should've taken our time more to make sure we got what we really wanted. However, we have a nice house in a trending neighborhood so the value should hold. We're remodeling the kitchen here in the next few weeks, so that will help. And we have a kick-ass backyard/porch set up that has turned us into the party house for our friends, so that has been fun. Not a huge regret, but there are things about the house we dislike.

I regret the hell out of letting my current neighbors move in and turn a beautiful, trendy architectural style home with great value into a complete shithole - complete with a yard that get's mowed/cleaned MAYBE once a year, pink flamingos in the front yard, Christmas decorations that are STILL FUCKING UP and visible, and just a general complete redneck, white trash look to the place. We had no idea, but they're the worst.

You live in Mississippi so that shouldn't be a shock.

I can't say I regret home purchase. I got it in 1999 in a location that is desirable and for a few years the house was making more than me on an annual basis. The location is such that the value only plateaued and never dropped. Paid $174,900, dropped $250K in popping a second floor on it and modernizing things, and house is somewhere between $800K and $1M in value.

Granted, our street feels like it could be the suburbs of anywhere, but I can walk to the end of the street, turn, and view the Washington Monument- that's exactly what I do every 4th.

Oh shit, after posting this, I thought the $1m might be pushing, only to hit a neighborhood thread where people a few houses from me are selling their much smaller house house for $1,050,000 and then a realtor up the street from me said that here's the last few sales:

So my house may start making more than me again annually.

I am hoping that is what ours will do, but the city needs to get its shit together for that to happen. Jackson is a shithole, but it's primed for a resurgence and I think that will start in my neighborhood. At least this is what I hope will happen.

Yeah- our original home price was so low because the prices were all high along the Metro corridor- it's a twenty minute walk for me to get on Metro, so people overlooked a lot of close-in neighborhoods to either get Metro accessible or to go waaaay out and get more land. But traffic is so nuts here that all the close-in places jumped in value and never lost it; there wasn't point in living way out and having land if you were stuck in traffic and never got to see it.

We get a lot of turnover due to the Feds as well (plus I can walk to Joint Base Myer-HH so we get a lot of military turnover too). This means homes are always moving so you get a good idea what value is on a constant basis.
