The one-syllable words with A, I, O, U all seem to have hard G's while the ones with E and Y have soft G's.

I guess that's what it comes down to in the end.

It's actually gotten a lot of comments in such a short time so I think it was a good poll and not just a run of the mill "this or that" type poll.
