I'm old enough that they didn't even have soccer in the schools I went to growing up until I was in 10th grade. I probably would have played if they had it earlier. I now relive my missed glory days by coaching girls youth soccer.

I used to coach my son's rec team, but at HS level they dump everyone together and it didn't make sense to coach freshman against teams full of seniors and the like. Plus with HS he's gonna be interested in other things.
