But the Giant and old waiter dude both appear in the Waiting Room and we know they are "helpful". Plus Briggs says he was taken to the White Lodge, which is outside of TP.

Granted, there is stuff you can skip through (Curtis can now say that certain aspects were totally unimportant and fluff, like just about anything to do with Nadine). But the new series will make little sense if you have not watched the original and FWWM. Given it is David Lynch, it *still* might not make sense even after watching. | How can you have any pudding if you won't eat your meat? |

It had it's little moments, so we watch each episode and fast forward through anything unimportant, including stuff like:
Ben Horne as Robert E. Lee
Nadine as a teenager
Most of the Miss TP pagent lead up
Anything involving the nasty little foster kid

Three parts in and I'm waiting for some of the old charm to come back. We've gotten the weird, but the charm is lacking.

I've read some stuff about how people are really disappointed about the lack of hammy charm and lightheartedness. And the answer seems to be that this is Lynch continuing in the direction he's been going in with his stuff post-Peaks and that the show is gonna be uncompromising in that regard and won't be made to appease people necessarily
I thought the premiere felt like a totally different show in tone/style/direction and was also missing the lightheartedness of classic Peaks, but the more I've sat on it the more I realize I enjoyed it. I think the old tone will start to come back at some point probably when you know who gets outta you know where? But maybe that happened in the episode you watched ahead, don't tell me etc. But who knows. I think it was so well made and interesting enough that I can live with the new direction
However it's a REALLY jarring change after having binged the shit outta the long second season the day before. It's especially super weird to watch all of these characters over and over and then hours later they're 25 years older and definitely look it. It was so odd, it was sorta like when they made older Coop in the S1 dream sequence but the entire cast

Yeah- we binged about a month back and then rewatched the last episode and FWWM again (along with all the FWWM extras). Even FWWM has some of the charm.
I will say this is closer to Inland Empire so far than TP. I guess I'm also somewhat more frustrated that the acting is mostly done almost geriatric- like Hawk, Lucy, and Andy going through the boxes. It was almost like watching them impersonate the old Waiter in terms of acting, rather than being themselves.
