p sure you just didn't get half of it (: |
I get it. All the metaphors and all of that!
I just didnt care! The show just kept going downhill for me. |
I wasn't referring to the metaphors. The show doesn't really have that many metaphors outside of D's S1 speeches anyway (:

without spoiling i will say that the show has a number of great, small moments that end up being absolutely CRUCIAL to the endgame. season 4 especially.
as for TLG getting something is not limited to getting the 'metaphors,' it's just about thinking about the show on some level deeper than what's presented at surface. i have never seen a substantial comment from you about it

Ohhh men. I've seen the Avon/Stringer confrontation scene several times before but it was still great to finally see in full context. Excellent acting from the two of them. Avon's initial confused reaction when String spills about D is perfect. Stringer being fairly BOASTFUL about it since Avon had just called him weak. Good shit
SIDE NOTE. I saw this pointed out. As String lets up, there's a rack focus from String to Avon's hurt arm as Avon grips it in pain. The theot seems to be it's a symbol for his wounded RIGHT ARM/right hand man. With the lingering focus on it and the fact that the show seems to do this a lot, it was probably intentional. Kinda kul
McNulty making Brianna feel like complete shit was the other best scene of the episode. She deserved it tbh. Still sad tho because she probably knows that she deserved it and McNulty was fairly relentless. It kept saddening me to hear people say they didn't expect anyone to give a shit about D's death, so having McNulty focus on this and say that he actually liked D was really nice. I MISS D!!
The Avon/Stringer and McNulty/Brianna scenes were great payoff over two and a half seasons. Really curious to see what more comes out of Avon and Stringer's friendship before..... (: . Not much time left until that I don't think. I'm dreading it
Funny scenes: Prez getting all pumped up over the license plate and Cedric's line about how he freaks him out still. Herc with the kids playing around with the identity program. That was hilarious. And McNulty accidentally insulting that police officer and his wife with his racist comment. "You should meet my partner, you'd like her!" |

Oh gawd. Classic Prez!! Doing what he does best
What a sad sap. Had so much success this season and now it's all gone. "Tell Lester I'm sorry" crushed me
Carver moving the body.. :merc: . Good intentions, but so silly. I didn't expect Herc to be the one to stick by his morals and refuse to partake in that. I also didn't think he'd be the one to start what'll obviously be the beginning of the end of Hamsterdam
Best moment of the episode besides Prez's story was Brianna confronting Avon and Stringer. I felt bad for Avon. He's so pissed that she would suggest he would do something like that, but at the same time he's forced to lie to her so she's not entirely wrong. Must make him even angrier at String. I like the way it was shot too with String in the background between the two
FUNNY MOMENTS: The montage of Cutty trying to get different permits and his little fist pump at the end. The Sunday morning truce and Slim yelling at the two shooters about it |

i assume you KNOW what's coming but the best thing about it is how all the pieces align.
The Prez plotline works so well for me, because it comes out of nowhere. Most major events on the show are preceded by immense, intricate buildup, but the only background this had was the hints of Prez' inexperience on the street/poor handling of violence/possible racism. It really makes it feel as shocking and sudden as it needs to. |

Pretty good season. Probably my favorite so far. I'd say 3=1>2. I get the allure of season two but I just missed Avon and co too much to rank it higher than one or three
The rooftop scene between Avon and Stringer is probably my favorite behind WHERE'S WALLACE. I'm not sure anything will top Where's Wallace for me tbh, but this was really good. Stringer basically begging Bunny to make sure Avon's sentence is low, while Avon's being more ruthless (though forced) and setting String up to die. And neither of them know on the rooftop that the other sold them out, but they seem to start to realize. Good shit
Stringer's death was good but it sucks to see him go. QUITE a bit! For me he's more complex and dynamic than Omar and carries the show a bit more. I can't see any one character filling that void. PLUS Avon's gonna be gone again, which SUCKS!!!!!!! As far as I'm aware, he's barely in the rest of the series. Ugh
Avon's arrest was really good. I love Wood Harris in that scene. He starts to laugh to himself because he knows the jig is up and he really treats it all as a game. Another instance of that is the great scene when Slim whispers in his ear that that chick who fucked Marlo was killed. He laughs to himself and compliments Marlo, then tells String about it after listening to him talk. His body language and delivery is really great in that moment. I also loved him mouthing "Marlo?" through the courtroom
LET'S SEE WHAT ELSE
Cutty is great. I hope he's still in it but I'm not sure what more they'd do with him. I loved that they brought in the random/slow dealer who tried to deal to Bunny earlier in the season as Cutty's trainee. OH and I RLY loved that Avon backed Cutty and gave him 15 grand. That was one of my favorite moments. There's not a lot of success on this show at all so for Avon to give Cutty that win was really great to see. Made me very happy
Now that Avon's gone, what's gonna happen with Slim??? And Shamrock? I like those two. Slim's still out there but Shamrock's probably done
Tommy's speech at the end was another big highlight. Aidan Gillen crushed it. And the slow zoom on him was really good
WHAT ELSE WHAT ELSE
Nothing on the show has surprised me more than seeing Rawls in that gay bar. Lamar very uncomfortable in the bar was hilarious
RIP Johnny
McNulty turning down Theresa when he realizes she's just there to get the scoop on Bunny. I liked that a lot. Also enjoyed how depressed McNulty was that he didn't get Stringer, or that Stringer never knew he got him at least
I finished up 12 hours ago and it was late so I can't recall everything I wanted to talk about. Cart and Hup, what were your favorite arcs throughout this season? Or moments from the last three episodes |

Oh and as soon as I finished, I went back and watched the first scene of the season because I forgot what it was and I figured they'd make it relative to how the season plays out
It was the scene when the towers were torn down ofc, and I think I was right about it being packed with themes that echo throughout the season
Royce promises that his administration is all about reform etc etc. I wasn't surprised that the word reform was thrown out in the first scene. It's what the whole season was about I think
Then when the towers come down, it literally kicks up a shit load of unexpected dust which effects everyone. Citizens, politicians, cops, dealers. You see a shot of each of them effected by it. Pretty clear imagery (: . Bunny's experiment ends up doing the exact same thing
You've also got Bodie making fun of Poot for making the same mistakes over and over again while Royce is promising that they'll all learn from their mistakes. I can't think of specific ways to connect those dots throughout the season right now but I'm sure there's plenty
For me, this show seems to be better suited for a rewatch. Even just rewatching that opening scene alone made it better. I'd probably enjoy this show a second time more than I'm enjoying it right now |
