I couldn't finish the last star wars show they did. Boba Fett or w/e it's called. But I am so excited for this one. That poster alone looks amazing. |

Heeeere we go
Episode 1;
|
Not bad! Seeing Ewan as Obi-Wan again is really great. The clear highlight of the prequel trilogy. Also hoping to see Edgerton get pretty involved, he’s super underrated
The grand inquisitors seem..fine. I guess. Felt like they tried to do a Hans Landa esque intro with him and fell way short of that obviously (: . I liked when the third sister cut off that lady’s hand and when they hung Jedi Safdie in the town square, at least it shows they’re willing to get PG-13 violent with their villains. I feel like they’re not gonna be all that classic in the end but tbd
Ep was solid but one single minute-long sequence threatened to destroy the whole thing………. the Leia chase scene. My god, I was dying at how bad it was. The fact that they couldn’t outrun her, her hero slide, their choice to try to cut her off when they were right behind her, and THREE TIMES..them being foiled by small tree branches that they had to go around??? Wtf was that. So cringey. Makes me nervous for the way any upcoming action scene is directed. Cautiously optimistic for a good Obi-Wan lightsaber fight sequence or two tho

Definitely got goosebumps during the recap, that was well done. Almost made the prequels look good as a whole! | |

Episode 2
|
Omfg another Leia chase scene with her ducking underneath shit. Awful. I now hope there is one per episode
The Obi-Wan force scene to save Leia fell pretty flat for me sadly. I wish it was more….epic. Though I have a feeling the first time he uses his lightsaber will hit that mark
Did not realize Rupert Friend was playing grand inquisitor. Seemed familiar. Glad he’s already dead lol, he kinda stunk already. Though he’ll probably have survived and come back and no one will care
Fun role for Kumail, glad he survived
Missed opportunity to have him say to Leia “my name is Obi-Wan Kenobi, I’m here to rescue you”. Could’ve been a fun callback. Or maybe I would’ve hated it! Who knows
Loved the Vader reveal shot. I hadn’t considered the fact that Obi-Wan didn’t know Anakin had survived so that was a cool moment

EP 1/2
|
Ewan McGregor is so good as Obi-Wan. I can't even express how excited I was for this and to see him in the role again. More! I want all the Obi-Wan!
Seeing his day to day routine and starting off slow was the right call, I feel. Makes sense, and I like how they show how out of practice he is throughout these two episodes.
I'm a little disappointed they brought in Leia. Can't lie. Kids... meh. It always feels the same. Her running away from him, too. Please less of this. How many times did he scream her name? It was hard not to dislike her as a character when she nearly gets herself killed. But that's most child characters in action based shows and movies, not listening. Causing more problems for the protagonist. Then she jumps and falls. I looked away from the screen after he saved her and suddenly he was down off the roof and with her on the ground, and I had to rewind to see how he got down. He just does, I guess. Did he even take out the guys firing at him?
I enjoyed the scenes with her where she wasn't putting herself in danger. :)
The fake Jedi character was a big win for me. Very fun and interesting what came of that.
"WE WILL FIND YOU!! WE WILL DESTROY YOU!" This scene... waving her lightsaber at the ship... nope.
Overall, though, the show looked great. They really captured the lived in world of Star Wars. I'm along for the ride!

I…..hate child actors. About 95% of the time. No different here
My dad said he thought she stole the show like Baby Yoda. I was like huh??? |

My hope is he drops her off back to safety at the start of episode 3 and that's the last we see of her. |

first two eps were...okay! Agreed with a lot of what you guys said. Direction was very iffy at times, child acting was mostly bad. Recap was probably my favorite part so far lol
|
I was so confused during that first Leia chase, like those dudes were standing feet away from her multiple times, clearly within reaching distance, and just kept...letting her get away. At first I was like "oh okay so there's something weird going on here? Are they trying to scare her? Lead her somewhere?" but then they threw the bag over her head and it was just like...oh. Just really poor direction I guess!
Ewan was obviously the highlight and the main thing keeping it afloat. I did like Kumail's character, that was a fun concept. A bit confused on his very sudden redemption arc where he was seemingly prepared to DIE for Obi-Wan tho??
Need more Owen & Beru tbh
I too hope the Grand Inquisitor stays dead. Third Sister is pretty meh too but at least more interesting than him. But also if he does I wonder what the point of that whole sub-plot between him and Third Sister was?? Just to make her look more evil I guess? |

Some good stuff some bad stuff, overall not bad and I'm looking forward to the rest of the show.
|
The Good
- Seeing Alderaan for the first time on live TV was cool.
- Bail Organa actor returning was great,
- Of course a 3PO cameo
- Temura Morrison cameo as the PTSD 501st Clone
The Bad
- Inquisitors did not impress
- Grand inquisitor, not sure if he's the same guy from Rebels, but I guess not
- Reva, her parkour scene was just cringe to watch especially since she could just force jump
- Leia outrunning everyone (could be her force sensitive side, but still hard to buy that)

Episode 1 kept me engaged.

I agree the chase scene was absolutely awful. Come on. |

watching this show fresh off the heels of another streaming service's faaaar superior flagship show (Stranger Things) does not help its cause! Very blah
|
I'm sure they'll face off one more time in this show but this Vader vs Obi-Wan rematch did not make me feel like it was worth killing continuity for. The whole fight was just Obi-Wan running away (when it wasn't cutting away every 5 seconds, srsly holy shit let the scene BREATHE), zzzz. I did like the ending with Anakin getting his revenge with the fire but the resolution to that was so awkward. He just...lets him go after all that? Huh
v unfortunate that Leia is still in the picture, we were SO close to moving on from her |

I'm shocked they're continuing this Leia storyline and that they didn't immediate reach her planet and drop her off to safety. Certainly treated all other travel with a snap of their fingers to get this far from home in the first place. I take it the ship they stowed away on was going to this planet and they weren't actually in control of where it went. Guess they could've made that clearer last episode.
With how slow Vader was taking things, they all could've went through the tunnels together. The direction really didn't convey why Obi-Wan had to run off another direction or why the woman who was helping them had to turn back either.
The blue glow of the lightsaber looked so good. Everything has looked great. I liked so much of the visuals they were giving us. And a lot of the small interactions and stuff were done well enough, too.
I'm a big fan of putting your characters into seemingly unwinnable situations, but if they come out of it, the how has gotta be believable. Vader couldn't have forced away the flames, jumped over them, pushed the droid away, dragged Obi-Wan back through the flames?? Instead, he turns and walks away. ???
And my god, Leia being caught again cause she was left alone, nope nope nope. Were these people teleporting past each other unseen? I felt like I must've missed some things when watching.
^_^ I feel wildly over critical of this episode, but it felt weird!
I loved the early stuff in the episode with Obi-Wan and Leia and their little journey into the town. That chunk of the episode was good. The ending stuff just felt like a wet noodle to me. |

Episode 3
|
lol I actually had the opposite experience Boc. I watched this right after an episode of Boba and my GOD was the difference noticeable. This ep was not great but it was clear that more care went into it than Boba
…still fell short tho. I heard RAVE reviews for the episode and was so ready for a huge Obi Wan and Anakin reunion. Instead it felt…kinda awkward. Like those shots of him kinda just wandering around the piles of sand and dirt while Vader was always around each corner? It was just dumb. When they were facing off at that refinery I was like oooo this is gonna be a sick set piece but Obi Wan doesn’t even take out his lightsaber to respond to Vader’s, he just stares at him and scurries away lol. And then he just casually extends his saber while alone?? Him using it again for the first time in ages should’ve been a fucking classsssic money shot but was wasted. Like Vader should’ve gone to strike down a villager and then the blue saber dashes into frame to parry him, would’ve been so good
I did like Vader’s presence for sure. Loved how brutal he was, just casually dragging people and snapping necks. And the way he raked Obi Wan across the fire, gahd damn. Also liked the stormtrooper getting cut in half by the lasers
Sand Snake momma is an okay character so far. Leia was less annoying this ep
I was so hoping the pilot Leia was going to would be some great unexpected cameo. Nope, he dead and it was just Reva. Bummer
SURELY they’re gonna save a big Obi v Vader rematch for the finale at least. I’m holding out hope for that
