yeah ep 1 was p good. Pretty much a shoo-in for best video game adaptation already considering the competition

Pedro was GREAT as Joel, I think he's nailing it so far. Him and Tess have been the two best portrayals. Ellie was...fine! It's gonna hinge on her and Joel's relationship and I did like the one scene of them together so that's promising

iirc in the game her mask gets broken and Joel starts to panic before realizing that she's able to breathe in the spores just fine. Since they changed the infection vector from spores to tendrils in the show they had to go with the more basic "I was bitten but now I'm fine" route I agree it was a bit underwhelming. The reveal in the game is so much more dramatically satisfying

As someone who has never played the game and doesn’t even know a single thing about it because I’ve avoided all mentions of it because I’ve always wanted to play some day….. I thought episode 1 was really really good

they really nailed that clicker intro. Felt JUST like the games, the absolute dread you feel when it's walking right by you and you know you shouldn't move an inch despite how badly you want to. Also some great blocking in that scene with Joel reloading, when the clicker disappears from frame Wow @ that kiss of death scene at the end. Ewwww!!! I'm getting a bit more sold on the tendrils change after that CHUCKLED at the bit with Joel giving Tess a boost. They're not going over the top with it but I like those little winks they throw in now and then. The ceiling collapsing behind them as they enter a room being another one

Yes those moments did feel very video game-y to me which I liked despite never having played it

this is my fave game that ive ever played (narrowly beating out Arkham City) so I was very keen to watch this and so far its absolutely enthralling

the clicker was fucking perfect. i loved everything abt that scene. i catch myself trying to think back to the game and spot differences in my head which can get a bit distracting but they've done a really good job of staying true to the material whilst not just making a frame for frame redo. appearance wise i think Pedro looks awesome. Ramsey as Ellie sometimes is a bit hard for me to accept but she's delivering her lines perfectly. i really thought they would drag out Tess' part a little more because she seemed to be such a strong screen presence. i was trying to remember how early in the game Tess dies but still thought they'd let her live till ep 3. really cool death scene tho future speculation based on game events + im curious for the introduction of the poachers or whatever they were in the game i.e. the human baddies. i think they alluded to those in ep 1 as slavers or something. theres def a few specific scenes and scenarios that im super looking fwd to like when Joel gives Ellie the sniper and she covers for him in that big battle with human baddies, the elevator shaft falling apart with Joel/Ellie being separated leading into the basement battle with the infected, the cannibal David, the Giraffe scene. HOT DANG i fucking love this game and so far this show as well

I’ve done a good job avoiding spoilers with the game even though I know I’ll never really have a chance to play it all. I knew about Sarah’s death and I know about a certain TLOU2 moment. But I didn’t know about Tess’ death…until three days ago (: . Sucks! Got spoiled on Twitter. I would’ve been shocked too cause I wouldn’t have expected Anna Torv to have such an early exit. She made her mark though, she was great. I loved her attitude switch once she was infected. The tendril smooch was grosssss, ewwww! I loved the cold open, it surpassed ep 1’s for me (though that was great). The actress who played the scientist was perfect Clicker scenes vry good I was also gonna point out the fun video game blocked path moments. They had that silly one in ep 1 when the flaming police car blocks the alley off and separates Joel and Sarah from his brother, I love that stuff

I’m thinking I might watch gameplay footage finally and just watch up to the general spot where each new episode ended? As long as they’re going super linear with the game which they seem to be
