Just finished a movie called KILL LIST. All I'll say is that it's a dark movie about two hitmen
Very unnerving. A mix of a few genres with some unexpected, weird turns. It's all fairly uncomfortable
A lot is left unclear by the end. People will either love it or hate it. I liked it a lot. Someone else watch it! I'd like to see someone's thoughts on it

Monsters University... one of the Pixar greats. It's been a while since I saw Monsters Inc but it's not too full of references for that to really matter. I really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it.

Also, the short film was probably the best animated thing I've seen. I was completely unsure through most of it if it was live action with CGI elements or completely CGI. Apparently Pixar has a new lighting method and it makes everything look really realistic.

...really?
I thought it looked pretty lame from the commercials. But I never really liked the first Monsters Inc anyway

Well it's nothing mindblowing but it's certainly a competent and fun film. If you didn't like the original I doubt you'd like this one... maybe it's just the nostalgia talking but I found it very enjoyable.

While the first film focused mainly on Sully with Mike in a supporting role it's the opposite in this film. And since I appreciate Billy Crystal far more than John Goodman I found this a very welcome change of pace.

You probably can't trust my opinion Hupu. It reeks of incompatible good taste.

That's upsetting. I like Sully more than Mike

This. I actually thought I was watching a live-action thing for the first little bit, and was completely blown away by how realistic they made everything look.
Also, Doctor Hardscrabble made me paranoid as balls about going to grad school with her speech about how universities exist to make great students more great, not make mediocre students less mediocre. That's all I'm gonna be thinking about during the application process to Harvard now.
As for the film itself... it was enjoyable, and I thought they did a lot of neat things, (For whatever reason, Don was far and away my favorite character. His random sales-pitch to save the day was glorious.) but it seemed like the plot lacked the overall complexity and dimension of storytelling that earlier Pixar films had. I recently re-watched Toy Story, and was completely shocked at how sophisticated their storytelling actually was, and didn't seem to get that same level of amazement out of Monsters U. Maybe it's because it was a prequel, I dunno. I liked it a lot, and I'd definitely watch it again (probably several times, Robette's a huge Pixar fan), but it's a great film from a studio that usually produces excellent films, if that makes any sense. |
