Watched Bohemian Rhapsody with Katy yesterday and while it's still good, now that I know all the inaccuracies and Hollywood fanatics that went into it, I didn't enjoy it nearly as much. They really made a lot of shit up to make that movie. |

Magnolia
good
|
The first half+ was reallyyy good but it kinda faltered towards the end imo. The out of left field stuff didn't work for me and really took me out of it tbh (the singalong and frog plague). Not sure why either of those were necessary
Cruise was amazing and it's yet another counterpoint to the "Cruise is a celebrity not an actor!!!!" crowd. Great performances all around really which was definitely the strength of the movie, especially Julianne Moore, John C Reilly, and PSH in a surprisingly subdued role
I think this is one that'll grow on me the more it SITS (and I can see myself watching it again sometime) but for now I'd probably go
Punch-Drunk Love >> Boogie Nights > Magnolia > TWBB > The Master |

I think Boogie Nights is still my #1 but it's hard. PTA is one of the most consistent directors out there.

yeah it's hard to even compare PDL to his others tbh, I feel like it's the odd duck of the group. The rest are much more SPRAWLING and ambitious whereas PDL is very lean and focused. But for what it is it's p much perfection imo

Speaking of Adam Sandler masterpieces:
Murder Mystery. It was very bad. (My roommate put it on okay)
It's hilarious how all of his recent comedies are just him taking a vacation to some dope place and throwing together some half assed movie while he's there. He's living the life as far as I'm concerned

Best of Enemies - 2019 6/10
Good story based on true events, Sam Rockwell is his usual excellent self, but it just falls a bit flat.

If they took the use of the n world completely out of the movie you'd rate it 8/10 ;)
I loved the movie and enjoyed it. I'd probably give it a 7.5/10. Was an interesting story but not as good as The Hate U Give. |

Lol. I think it was actually one of the few movies where the use of the N word was actually appropriate.
Taraji Henson and Sam Rockwell were the highlights of the movie. Other than the story itself.
Was just missing something for me. Still a good movie.

Ed Wood
fun movie! Was expecting maybe a bit more pathos but Burton was def going for a more WHIMSICAL take which I guess is to be expected with him. I liked it better than Disaster Artist which was clearly partially inspired by this
Martin Landau was the definite highlight and stole the show from Depp honestly, wasn't too surprised to find out he won an Oscar for this
|
the constant Bela Lugosi name drops from Wood was the best gag. And everyone assuming he was dead already |
