The Vanishing 2018 - 6/10
Inspired by a true story, that’s about it tho as the story is completely fabricated after the initial premise. It’s eerie and slow, but the acting is very good mostly, not a feel good movie. Might be Gerard Butlers’ best performance in a movie.
Heavy Trip 2018 - 4/10
Offbeat comedy out of Finland. Has it’s moments but nothing worth remembering. Some good goofy laughs and a funny premise. But overall quite forgettable.
Us 2019 - 1/10.
Was not my thing. | |

I watched It Happened One Night and I gotta admit...I thought it was really really funny. ESPECIALLY for a comedy made in 1934.

Cool. I love a lot of older movies mainly due to the fact that they have good story lines. They couldn’t rely on a lot of the things movies rely on today. Like action and violence and sex and gore and profanity.
Not saying that’s a bad thing, just sometimes gets old. There’s a lot of terrific old movies that have great stories and there’s a lot that are funny. Comedy doesn’t usually need a crutch.
Some of the comedy doesn’t really translate in today’s world but I’ve seen plenty of great old comedies that do. Harvey from 1950 starring Jimmy Stewart is one of my favorites.
As many movies as you watch I’d recommend checking out an old movie once in a while.

I actually watched Harvey last month. It's one of my dad's all-time favorites. I've learned that it's pretty difficult to dislike anything Jimmy Stewart is in.
In the case of IHON, I thought it was just really well written and charming. I love watching old movies and finding the origin of tropes/gags that future movies reference. I loved the scenes on the bus and hitchhiking gag.

Well I haven’t seen all of his movies because he’s never impressed me. But he was good in this one. He actually did some acting.
Do you care to elaborate? Discuss? Or do you just want to stick with Plz?
Maybe there’s one of his movies you could recommend where he’s better?
Or maybe you are saying he’s so bad it’s not possible?
Our movie tastes are fairly similar so I’d love to hear more.

also Birds of Passage
p good but I'm not as crazy about it as you two, I don't think much will stick with me down the road at all. I liked the structure and the fact that it was an epic. I thought it subverted expectations well in some parts but I would've liked more closure or comeuppance in others. Also thought the story was a bit too crime saga cliche at times
Biggest complaint was that it was pretty emotionless throughout and didn't move me in any sorta way, made it harder for me to care about anyone that I was watching
Some great suspenseful scenes tho and it looked great. I liked the lone house and its big scene

What I said wasn't meant to be negative. You have a different taste in movies then normal people. That's all. ;) |
