I couldn't tell if that part was supposed to be a joke or not. I was waiting for an extra line or some harmless jab. ANYTHING.

Just finished BIRDS of PASSAGE and I gotta say, it's definitely one of my favorites of the year.
It's a very unique and well-written take on the "rise and costs of power" story. Characters are well fleshed out and incredibly relatable. Characters, or at least the main few, are only trying to do what's best for themselves and their families but the story goes down a road that makes the ultimate tragedy feel almost inevitable. Decisions that are made early on grow into consequential moments that make the movie almost feel like a telltale game where every choice you make feels like the wrong one.
LOVED IT.

oh hey just finished Birds of Passage as well
also really liked it! Not exactly sure what I'd rate it yet, gonna have to let it SIMMER for a while. The first chapter was a bit iffy for me but it really built to something great
|
boy did I hate Ursula by the end. Got her kids/grandkids killed for NOTHING
That house set was really cool looking. Wonder if that was based on anything?
I actually think this movie should've been longer, cuz some of the early parts felt a bit rushed. Like I would've liked to see some more of the EARLY DAYS of the drug trade and how all their connections and everything got set up, which would've also gave the movie more time to flesh out Rap/Moises' relationship |

I understand what you mean. Every scene definitely had a purpose but it wouldn't have hurt to add maybe 15-30 minutes more of specific character interactions. I definitely understand your Ursula hate. She's definitely one of my favorite character's though just because she's one of the most developed. She's so CLEARLY focused on Zaida and her grandchildren, and that Rapa follows the rules of the culture, that she completely turns a blind eye to Leon's upbringing and his ethics.
I agree with you though, some more development between Rap/Moises would have been nice, I also wouldn't have minded seeing more from Zaida, who from the opening scene you'd think would be an incredibly prominent character, but steps back for probably 2/3rds of the movie. |

def agreed RE: Zaida, like you said from the opening scene this felt like it was setting up to be HER movie, but it was anything but. I guess it kinda came back around by the end with her getting the final dream but it would've been nice if she had more characterization in between those scenes |

Shazam......this movie is awful. DC just sucks at casting and story telling |

I saw Child's Play yesterday!! (I got AMC A-List and it's been life-saving)
|
It was surprisingly.. good? It felt more like a comedy than a horror movie. It didn't blow me away by any means by I thoroughly enjoyed myself through the whole movie. You could tell from the beginning that they weren't taking anything too seriously and it was a fun ride the whole way through. And the score was really good? And the aesthetics of it were outstanding. BIG FAN I THINK?? I wasn't expecting that.
I don't even hate the look of the doll now. |

$24!
For me, movie tickets end up being anywhere between $18-$24, so after two movies in one month -- it already pays for itself. Which is great but also sad that movies are that expensive here.
Edit: I just read that some states it is cheaper. The price ranges from between $20-$24.
